Nigeria: Woman gives birth at a Bus Stop in Lagos

A Nigerian woman gave birth at a bus stop in the capital, Lagos, to cheers from a crowd gathered nearby.

Emergency services said the unnamed woman was waiting to board a bus at the Onipanu bus stop on Monday when she suddenly went into labour.

Market traders guided her to a quiet area and emergency personnel rushed to the scene of the accident.

She gave birth to a “bouncing” baby boy, paramedics added.

The mother and child were later taken to hospital, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (Lamesa) added.

Although no further details have been released about her, Nigerians have been posting congratulatory messages on social media and suggesting names for the newborn.

Facebook user Sunday Ogunsola suggested giving the baby the Yoruba name Abiona, which roughly translates to “born on a journey.

“This name emphasizes the idea that the child is like an explorer and is ready for a life of adventure.

Another person on Facebook commented that the woman saved her hospital costs by giving birth at the bus stop.
