Ghana: Tributes pour in for the late deputy finance minister John Kumah

Tributes have been paid to Ghana’s Deputy Finance Minister John Kuma, who died of an undisclosed illness on Thursday.

He was 45 years old.

Kuma died while being escorted by a doctor by ambulance as he was taken from Ejisu, his parliamentary constituency, to the capital, Accra, about 235 kilometres (146 miles) away.

Kuma’s spokesperson, Bismarck Owusu Tumasi, told Ghanaian radio station City FM on Thursday: “This morning we will take the next available plane to take him to Accra to continue his treatment in Germany.” I decided to go,” he told Ghanaian radio station City FM.

Since he was not well enough to fly, we decided to take him to Accra in an ambulance,” Tumasi added.

Ghana’s President Nana Akufo-Addo led the nation in praising Mr Kuma.“His warmth, humility and genuine concern for others endeared him to me and all who crossed his path,” said President Akufo-Addo, who is committed to the betterment of our country and Ejisu.

He spoke of his deep passion for the lives of the people of Ghana.

Mr Tumasi said Mr Kuma’s death was a loss to voters.

Kuma was also a lawyer, preacher, and entrepreneur.

He left behind a wife and six children.
