The Kingdom of Eswatini has denied reports that it has granted citizenship to people from southern Africa to fill the country’s shortage of men.
Below is a fake viral letter purporting to be from King Mswati III. It expressed concern about the kingdom’s “lack of human resources.”
The letter stated that the king would allow willing men from southern Africa to marry women and receive free housing from the kingdom.
The Eswatini government said in a short statement posted onIt is not clear who wrote the fake letter that caused an uproar among some Southern African social media users.
Eswatini, Africa’s last absolute monarchy, has a population of approximately 1.2 million.
