Ugandan authorities have reportedly suspended a recent ban on meat sales in the capital, Kampala, following an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease.
Health authorities last week imposed a ban and ordered the closure of all slaughterhouses to stop the spread of infection.
However, Kampala City and National Capital Region Minister Minsa Kabanda told the Daily Monitor on Sunday that the ban has been lifted as the government continues to assess the impact of the disease in the capital.
However, Ms Kabanda appealed to people to always get their animals tested before slaughtering them.
Traders voiced their opposition to the ban, accusing the government of failing to prevent the spread of the disease.
According to local media, foot-and-mouth disease has been reported in 40 districts across the country.
