LIVE UPDATES: Israel strikes Yemen as more than 100 Palestinians killed across Gaza

  • Israeli air strikes have killed more than 100 Palestinians across Gaza since dawn today, with dozens missing under the rubble of destroyed buildings.
  • Israel’s military has again targeted Yemen, claiming strikes on the port of Hodeidah and as-Salif in Houthi-controlled territory.
  • Hamas has called on the international community to hold Israel to account for what it described as a “barbaric escalation”.
  • Israel’s war on Gaza has killed at least 53,119 Palestinians and wounded 119,919, according to Gaza’s Ministry of Health.
  • The Government Media Office updated the death toll to more than 61,700, saying thousands of people missing under the rubble are presumed dead. An estimated 1,139 people were killed in Israel during the Hamas-led attacks on October 7, 2023, and more than 200 were taken captive.

Why is Gaza at risk of reaching a famine soon?

Half a million people in the Gaza Strip, or one in five Palestinians, are facing starvation.

The rest of the population is suffering from high levels of acute food insecurity, according to a recent report by the UN’s Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC).

“The risk of famine in the Gaza Strip is not just possible – it is increasingly likely,” the IPC says.

Palestinian children eating mouldy bread as hunger grips Gaza: Aid worker

Afeef Nessouli, a volunteer with medical group Glia International, has detailed a recent Israeli attack that struck next door to where he was staying in Deir el-Balah in central Gaza.

“A big missile strike hit a neighbour, a family house, just down the way and the air pressure was so big, it actually knocked me and my colleague off our feet,” Nessouli told Al Jazeera. “It was extremely close.”

Nessouli said Palestinians are not only experiencing intensified Israeli bombardment, but also facing dire levels of hunger due to the Israeli blockade on Gaza.

“If you’re lucky, you’re having one meal a day of rice or lentils. And that’s not true for tens of thousands of people here, who are going to bed hungry. Children are eating moulded bread, they’re eating rice off the ground,” he said.

Five more people killed in Khan Younis

More than half of those killed in today’s attacks in Gaza are women and children.

There were attacks on 13 residential buildings in both Beit Lahiya and Jabalia where people were sleeping. These attacks happened without any warning whatsoever. People were killed inside the homes that they were sheltering in. Many of them moved into these temporary shelters in the past few months.

Emergency workers are having a hard time recovering bodies from under the rubble of these homes. Inside the morgues of the hospital, there are no shrouds. Family members are unable to offer proper burial for their loved ones. A lack of medical supplies is making it extremely difficult for doctors to treat the injured.

Just recently, in Khan Younis, five more people were killed. That’s in addition to the earlier attack in which a man was killed alongside two of his grandchildren inside their vehicles as they were evacuating from Khan Younis.

Spain pushes for UN resolution against Israeli blockade, PM Sanchez says

Spain is working towards a resolution in the UN General Assembly to end the Israeli blockade on Gaza, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has said in a post on X.

“More and more leaders are raising our voices against what’s happening in Gaza,” the Spanish leader said.

“The bombing of civilians must stop immediately. The situation is unbearable.”

Houthis launched 34 projectiles at Israel since it broke Gaza ceasefire

The  Israeli defence minister, Israel Katz, is threatening the leader of the Houthis, saying that they are willing to give him the same fate as the heads of Hezbollah and Hamas assassinated by Israel in Gaza, in Beirut and even in Tehran.

He said the Israelis are not going to back down, that the Houthis are going to suffer painful blows as long as they continue to fire missiles towards Israeli territory.

Since Israel broke the ceasefire [in Gaza] back in March, the Houthis have launched 34 different projectiles, one of which most notably – just a couple of weeks ago – made pretty significant impact right outside of Ben Gurion Airport.

The Israeli military carried out air strikes then, as well.

‘Either kill us or let us live’

Our colleagues on the ground have been speaking to people in the Jabalia refugee camp, recently targeted in Israeli attacks.

Ahmad Mansour said he counted more than 60 air strikes in the Tal az-Zaatar area overnight.

“All of them were targeting civilians. All the houses are being bombed – everything is gone,” he told Al Jazeera. “What is a person supposed to do? They’re all making a joke out of us. I’m heading to the coast now. We’ve been displaced more than 50 times – either kill us or let us live.”

Another resident, Amna Azzam, said she and her family could not sleep all night.

“They told us to evacuate, but we don’t know where to go,” she told Al Jazeera. “We have no shelter. Even the tent we had set up was destroyed after our house was demolished in the as-Sikka area. They drove us out – we don’t know where to go any more.”

An Israeli air strike hits Gaza every four minutes

Israeli newspaper Maariv is reporting that an Israeli air strike hit Gaza on average every four minutes today.

The outlet noted that the rate of air strikes is higher than that recorded on the eve of Israel’s ground operation in October 2023, when the war broke out.

Netanyahu calls latest Yemen attacks ‘just the beginning’

As we’ve been reporting, Israel has said it has struck the Hodeidah and as-Salif ports in Yemen.

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu has now said the attacks are “just the beginning”.

“We will not stand idly by and allow the Houthis to harm us. We will strike them with greater force, including at their leadership and all the infrastructure that enables them to attack us,” he said in a statement posted on the government’s social media account.

He further described the Houthis as “just a tool”, saying Iran was “behind them”.

‘Scars will endure a lifetime’ for Gaza’s children

An official with the UN agency for child rights (UNICEF) says Palestinian children in Gaza are “having to starve day after day only to be victims of indiscriminate attacks”.

In a statement denouncing the killing of at least 45 children in Gaza over the last two days, Edouard Beigbeder, UNICEF’s regional director for the Middle East and North Africa, stressed “there are no safe spaces” in the enclave.

“From north to south, children are being killed and maimed in hospitals, in schools-turned-shelters, in makeshift tents, or in their parents’ arms,” he said, noting that more than 950 Palestinian children have been killed in the past two months.

“The threats to children’s lives go beyond bombs and bullets. The living conditions too, threaten their survival. With each passing day of the aid blockade, they face the growing risk of famine, illness, and death.

“They have suffered in ways unimaginable. Their scars will endure a lifetime.”

In Gaza, the Nakba is being relived in 2025

The Nakba. It’s a concept that accompanied me from birth until I lived through it myself these past two years.

I was born a refugee in the Khan Younis camp, known by the city’s residents as the largest gathering of refugees expelled from their lands during the Nakba, when Israel was founded in 1948.

Whenever someone asked me my name, it was always followed by: “Are you a refugee or a citizen?”

As a child, I would ask: “What is a refugee?”

I spent a lot of time trying to understand what being a refugee meant. How did my grandparents flee their land in Beit Daras, a village north of the Gaza Strip that no longer exists?

Yemen’s as-Salif, Hodeidah ports targeted: Israeli military

The Israeli army has now confirmed that it targeted the Hodeidah and as-Salif ports in its attack on Yemen.

There have been no reports of casualties or damage from the strikes yet, but we’ll update you as soon as we can.

UN ready to deliver enough aid to feed entire Gaza for four months

The UN has said it is ready to deliver enough aid to feed all Palestinians in Gaza for at least four months as soon as Israel allows its trucks to enter the Strip.

“We have more than 171,000 metric tons of food on top of other life-saving supplies, and they’re ready to go the minute that Israel opens the gates,” Farhan Haq, deputy spokesperson for the UN secretary-general, said. “With this alone, we can feed everyone in the Strip for months, probably for at least four months, with just what we have right now.”

The UN has the resources to do it “immediately” and “efficiently” as has been done during the February ceasefire.

“Time is of essence. Children are going hungry by the day. And what we want is for the plan that we have been pushing to be adopted,” he added.

Israeli defence minister confirms attack on Yemen ports

Israel Katz says the Israeli military has “attacked and severely damaged” ports in Yemen under Houthi control.

In a social media post, the Israeli defence minister did not specify which ports were hit.

But as we reported earlier, Houthi-affiliated Al Masirah TV said as-Salif port in the Hodeidah governorate was struck. Israeli media outlets have also reported strikes on ports in Hodeidah and Ras Isa.

“If the Houthis continue to fire missiles at the State of Israel, they will suffer painful blows,” said Katz, who also threatened to “eliminate” Houthi leader Abdul Malik al-Houthi.

Photos: Palestinians flee after more Israeli forced displacement orders

As we’ve been reporting, Palestinians have again been forced to flee their homes in northern Gaza.

UNRWA has documented at least 23 displacement orders by the Israeli military since March 18.

Earlier, our correspondent reported the Israeli military had dropped more leaflets ordering the residents of Jabalia refugee camp to flee.

Why is Israel attacking Yemen?

The Israeli military has been trading attacks with Yemen’s Houthis for months. The exchange of fire has continued even after a recent ceasefire deal was reached between the Houthis and the US.

Earlier this month, the Trump administration announced it reached an agreement to stop bombing Yemen in exchange for the Houthis agreeing to halt their attacks on vessels in the Red Sea.

But the Houthis made clear that they would continue to fire at Israel as part of a campaign it says aims to pressure the Israeli government to end its deadly war on Gaza.

Yesterday, the Houthis said they fired a ballistic missile at Israel, causing sirens to sound in Tel Aviv and other parts of the country. The Israeli military said it intercepted the missile.

Israeli army continues aggression on Tulkarem, Nur Shams refugee camps

The Israeli army has continued its raids, demolitions and displacements in Tulkarem and Nur Shams refugee camps in the north of the occupied West Bank, according to the Wafa news agency.

In the past week, Israeli troops demolished at least 20 buildings there, the report said. The Israeli army also continues to tighten restrictions, preventing Palestinians from moving in and out of the two refugee camps and returning to their homes, it added.

Since late February, the Israeli army has conducted a large-scale military offensive across the occupied West Bank, focusing on Jenin, Tulkarem and Nur Shams.

Since then, some 40,000 Palestinians remain displaced in the north of the territory, according to the UN.

‘I don’t know’: Trump says of Netanyahu’s ability to reach captive release deal

Trump’s trip to the Middle East has had one conspicuous omission: A stop in Israel.

Some analysts have interpreted the decision as part of a wide drift away from the “ironclad” ally, which continues to receive billions of dollars in US military aid.

Speaking to reporters on Air Force One as he left the region earlier today, Trump offered little confidence when asked if Netanyahu could reach a deal to release the remaining captives held in Gaza.

“I don’t know. We’re going to find out pretty soon,” Trump said, before adding “we’ll be working with them to get them out.”

Trump also said he did not discuss his decision to announce US sanctions relief for Syria – or his meeting with leader Ahmed al-Sharaa – with Israel beforehand.

Here is a recap of recent developments:

  • Gaza’s Health Ministry says that 2,985 Palestinians have been killed and 8,173 wounded since Israel broke the Gaza ceasefire in March.
  • The UN said it is ready to deliver enough aid to feed all Palestinians in Gaza for at least four months as soon as Israel allows it.
  • The Palestinian media reports that Israel continues raids, demolitions and displacements in Tulkarem and Nur Shams refugee camps in the north of the occupied West Bank.
  • The Israeli army has ordered the Palestinians in Jabalia in the northern Gaza Strip to leave.

Almost 3,000 killed since Israel broke ceasefire

Gaza’s Health Ministry says that 2,985 Palestinians have been killed and 8,173 wounded since Israel broke the ceasefire and resumed its attacks on March 18.

Palestinian Authority condemns Israeli attacks on schools

The Palestinian Authority’s Education Ministry has slammed Israel for “waging fierce and aggressive attacks on schools in the towns of Bruqin and Kafr ad-Dik, west of Salfit”.

The ministry, quoted by the Wafa news agency, reported that the Israeli army stormed al-Munjid Private School in Bruqin and the Martyr Mazen Abu al-Wafa Basic School in Kafr ad-Dik.

The forces also converted the as-Salam Kindergarten building in Kafr ad-Dik into a military outpost, the report added.

It said the occupation bulldozers have also been active next to the Bruqin Girls’ Primary School.

The ministry stressed that these escalating violations against schools and educational staff throughout the occupied West Bank, East Jerusalem and Gaza are “part of a systematic colonial aggression”.

Israel orders Palestinians in northern Jabalia to leave

We have been hearing the sound of bombardment the entire day. There has been a very significant surge in the death toll since dawn.

It’s a very grim reminder of the Israeli brutality that continues to unfold on the ground.

Over the past hour, the Israeli military targeted a civilian vehicle in Khan Younis, killing at least four civilians – including three children – and struck a house in the same city, killing at least seven people.

Gaza’s health officials said that at least 120 Palestinians are still missing and rescue operations are still taking place in the northern part of Gaza.

The Israeli military in the last hour has dropped more leaflets for the residents of Jabalia refugee camp, ordering them to flee, … to move southward towards where we are.

Witnesses in Jabalia say they continue to hear cries from under the rubble

In Beit Lahiya and Jabalia refugee camps, houses have been bombed without any warning to force the families inside to leave these areas in search of any place safe.

Reports from Gaza’s Health Ministry paint a devastating picture of what is happening in northern Gaza. Witnesses in Jabalia say they continue to hear cries from under the rubble without being able to rescue those people.

Scenes at emergency rooms at Gaza’s barely functioning hospitals show how wounded civilians are receiving treatment on the floor.

The hospitals are operating with dwindling supplies and overwhelming capacity.

Hamas slams Israeli settlers for continued attacks in West Bank

The Palestinian group says Israeli “settler gangs, supported by the occupation army” continue their attacks in the occupied West Bank.

Hamas said in a statement on Telegram that the latest attacks took place at dawn in several villages in the Salfit governorate and northwest of Nablus.

It said the attacks reflect a dangerous escalation and called for increased resistance and confrontation with the settlers.

No progress in ceasefire talks

According to sources cited by Israeli media outlet Haaretz, there has been no progress on ceasefire and captives negotiations in Qatar.

The report said that despite Israel’s renewed military pressure on Gaza and an attempted assassination on Hamas senior figure Mohammed Sinwar, the Palestinian group has not compromised its position on a US-proposed plan.

“Israel’s position is rigid, Hamas hasn’t folded, the Americans have lost interest, Trump is on his way home, and Witkoff is no longer involved. He’s waiting to hear what we want, and since we don’t want anything, he has nothing left to do,” one source was quoted as saying.

Vehicle hit in Khan Younis

There has been another Israeli attack on civilians in Khan Younis.

This time, a vehicle was hit, with at least four people reported killed.

At least 104 Palestinians have been killed across Gaza since dawn.

Seven killed in Israeli attack on Khan Younis

Our colleagues on the ground are reporting that Israeli forces hit a house in Khan Younis, southern Gaza, killing at least seven civilians.

Trump says we need to help starving Palestinians in Gaza

After wrapping up his tour of the Middle East earlier today, President Trump backed aid for the Palestinians, saying people in Gaza are starving and adding that he expected “a lot of good things” in the next month.

Asked whether he supported Israeli plans to expand the war in Gaza, Trump told reporters: “I think a lot of good things are going to happen over the next month, and we’re going to see. We have to help also out the Palestinians. You know, a lot of people are starving on Gaza, so we have to look at both sides.”

Here’s what’s been happening in Israel’s war on Gaza

  • President Trump has expressed support to deliver aid to the Palestinians in the enclave, saying people in Gaza are starving and adding that he expected “a lot of good things” in the next month.
  • Hamas says Israel “continues its bloody escalation against our Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, through successive massacres and brutal bombardment”.
  • Our colleagues, quoting medical sources, report that more than 100 people have died or are missing following Israeli raids on homes in Beit Lahiya and Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza.
  • Sources say a Palestinian has been killed and seven were wounded by an Israeli drone attack in eastern Khan Younis.

Gaza death toll today crosses 100

Health officials have told Al Jazeera that at least 100 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli attacks since dawn. At least 55 of them were killed in northern Gaza.

Dozens more remain missing under the rubble.
