- Announcement comes after Iran launched several volleys of missiles at Israel, killing at least four people in the southern city of Beersheba.
- Earlier, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said there’s no agreement on a ceasefire with Israel, but that Tehran will halt attacks if Israel stops its “illegal aggression” by 4am local time (00:30 GMT). Israel is yet to comment publicly.
- Iran also fired a salvo of missiles at a military base in Qatar that houses American troops on Monday evening, in retaliation for the US’s attacks on its nuclear sites a day earlier.
- Iran says that more than 400 people, including 13 children, have been killed and at least 3,056 others wounded since Israel launched its attack on June 13. In Israel, at least 24 people have been killed in Iranian strikes.

Trump’s timeline – The proposed Iran-Israel ceasefire
- Trump sent out a post on his Truth Social platform at around 6pm local time on Monday in Washington DC (22:00 GMT) stating that the ceasefire would begin to take effect “in approximately 6 hours from now”.
- That six-hour period – which expired at 04:00 GMT (7:00am in Israel, 7:30 am in Tehran) – was to allows Iran and Israel to wind down and complete their “final missions”.
- Trump said Iran will start the ceasefire first (04:00 GMT on Tuesday).
- Israel will follow 12 hour later at 7pm local time (16:00 GMT).
- Israel must stick to the ceasefire for 12 hours, after which ceasefire will be considered to be in full effect.
- Trump said this timeline will mark the official end to what he termed the “Twelve Day War” between Israel and Iran.
Trump says ‘ceasefire is now in effect’
US President Donald Trump has said “the ceasefire is now in effect” in a post on Truth Social.
“Please do not violate it!” he added.
Neither Iran nor Israel have officially confirmed the agreement announced earlier by Trump on ending the conflict that has killed hundreds in Iran and two dozen in Israel.
The US leader had said the ceasefire would be a phased 24-hour process beginning at around 04:00 GMT on Tuesday, with Iran unilaterally halting all operations. Israel would follow suit 12 hours later.
Two men and a woman among the dead in Israel’s Beersheba
We’ve been following reports of four people killed in the southern city.
According to Israel’s Channel 14, a woman in her 40s was among those people killed in the strike in the country’s southern area.
Also killed was a man in his 40s and a young man in his 20s, the report said.
In addition, emergency workers evacuated two people in their 50s, who sustained “moderate” injuries, while six others, who sustained light injuries, were treated on site.
Death toll from latest Iranian strike on Israel rises to four
Israel’s Channel 14 is reporting that the number of people killed from the Iranian strike on Beersheba has risen to four.
The broadcaster cited a fire and rescue official.
Linoy Reshef, spokesperson of the fire and rescue agency’s southern district, also told Channel 14’s Ariel Idan that additional people remain trapped in one of the buildings hit by the Iranian strike shortly before a ceasefire between Iran and Israel took effect.
At least eight other people were reported injured, and two of them were taken to a hospital for treatment.
If you’re just joining us
Let’s bring you up to speed:
- Israel’s military and medics say Iran has fired six volleys of missiles at the country, killing at least three people and wounding several more in the southern city of Beersheba.
- This comes after Trump said the two sides have agreed to a phased ceasefire, with Iran to begin the ceasefire at 04:00GMT, and Israel to follow afterwards.
- Trump says Israel and Iran came to him “almost simultaneously” using for peace and says the two countries have much to lose if they stray from the road of “righteousness and truth”.
- Iran’s Press TV says Israeli forces assassinated top nuclear scientist Sedighi Saber in a strike on Tehran.
- Media in Iraq and Iran have reported several attacks on military sites in the country, including the Taji base, the Victory Base Complex in Baghdad, the Balad base as well as the Imam Ali base.
Israel-Iran fighting ‘until the very last breath’
We’ve seen this happen in the past, in ceasefires with Israel, where parties would go on until the very last breath.
This was quite unusual, what we’ve seen in the past hours. Six different missile launches from Iran on various areas in Israel.
The most devastating in Bir as-Sab’, or Beersheba, where six people are feared dead and perhaps more trapped under the rubble in the building that was really devastated by a direct impact, a direct hit from a missile launched by Iran.
This is still developing in terms of what the final tally is from these different launches. What was impacted in addition to this building? This is certainly the most extended period of missile launches that we’ve seen.
Israeli medics say people may be trapped in damaged buildings
Israel’s ILTV news channel is quoting the chief of the country’s emergency agency, Eli Bin, as saying that there are concerns that some people may have been trapped in three buildings that sustained serious damage in the latest Iranian strikes in Beersheba.
ILTV said that at least three people were rescued from a safe room on the fourth floor of one of the buildings that sustained a “direct hit”.
The rescue effort comes amid new missile alerts from Iran.
There have been at least three people confirmed killed and several others injured in Beersheba on Tuesday morning.
Video shows Iranian strike on southern Israel
A clip posted on X by The Jerusalem Post shows the moment an Iranian missile hit southern Israel, resulting in several casualties.
According to initial reports, at least three people were killed and several others wounded in the strike in Beersheba.
Iranian TV says ceasefire has now begun
Press TV says the ceasefire between Israel and Iran has begun following several waves of attacks on Israeli territory.
Iraqi authorities increase security around US, foreign embassies in Baghdad
We reported a little earlier on a drone attack on the Taji military base, located north of Iraq’s capital, Baghdad.
A senior US military official also told the Associated Press news agency that reports of an attack on a base housing US forces in Iraq were a false alarm, triggered by falling debris from a malfunctioning Iran missile that was aimed at Israel.
Al Jazeera’s Mahmoud Abdelwahed, reporting from Baghdad, said security has been increased around the US and other foreign embassies in the city.
“We understand that here in the capital, Baghdad, security forces have been deployed in and around the Green Zone, which is home to the US embassy and other foreign diplomatic missions,” Abdelwahed said.
“This comes after threats made by Iran-allied groups in Iraq threatening to attack US interests in the region and namely military bases,” he said.
“In Iraq, over the past week, there have been marches and demonstrations condemning the attacks against Iran and calling on the Iraqi government not to allow any foreign country to use Iraqi airspace to carry out attacks or air strikes inside Iran.”

Israel issues sixth alert of an Iranian missile attack
The Israeli military says it has detected another wave of missiles from Iran and is urging the public to take cover.
Trump continues to extol Israel-Iran deal
The US president has again taken to Truth Social to laud the ceasefire deal he claimed he brokered between Israel and Iran, even as the deadly missile attacks continue on Israeli territory.
“We couldn’t have made today’s ‘deal’ without the talent and courage of our great B-2 pilots, and all of those associated with that operation,” he said, referring to the US bombers used in the attacks on Iranian nuclear sites.
“In a certain and very ironic way, that perfect ‘hit,’ late in the evening, brought everyone together, and the deal was made!!!” he added.
Israeli analyst says waves of Iranian missiles possibly the ‘end game’
Israeli political analyst Akiva Eldar has welcomed as “good news” the ceasefire deal between Iran and Israel announced hours earlier by Trump, saying the latest wave of missiles from Iran followed a pattern where “every side will do its most to be portrayed as having total victory or at least face-saving”.
“Hopefully, this is the end game,” Eldar told Al Jazeera.
“This is maybe the beginning of the light at the end of the tunnel,” Eldar said.
“It happened before the ceasefire in Gaza with Hamas. It happened with Hezbollah in Lebanon. Until the last minute, they will try to improve the balance of power or the balance of damages and say, ‘Look, the last pictures, the last images, the last footage were are getting from the enemy is showing that we are doing good,’” he said.
“That it is not that we are surrendering. You see, what they can do we can do better,” he added.
Israel tells people to remain in bomb shelters amid waves of Iranian missiles
The Israeli military says it has now detected another launch of ballistic missiles by the Iranians.
In the first two barrages of rockets, there was a direct impact in southern Israel and the ambulance services are saying that three people have been killed in the direct hit. This was a seven-storey building in southern Israel that was targeted.
Now there are sirens across different parts of the country. It is still unclear how many missiles have been launched in this latest barrage, but the Israeli army said that a total of six in the first two barrages were launched – two missiles in the first and then four in the second.
The military says they are now working to intercept all of the rockets that have been fired and they are calling on people to shelter in place, to stay in those bomb shelters because they are still unsure when this event is going to be over.
Israel issues another warning of a missile attack from Iran
The Israeli military’s warning is the fifth such alert it has issued since Trump announced a ceasefire between Israel and Iran.
Netanyahu silent hours after Trump’s claim of a ceasefire
The Israeli prime minister has yet to comment on Trump’s announcement of a ceasefire deal between Israel and Iran.
According to The Jerusalem Post, Netanyahu convened a Security Cabinet meeting that lasted into the early hours of Tuesday morning. He also asked ministers to avoid making public statements on the ceasefire, it reported.
Iran, meanwhile, said it would stop its retaliation if Israel stop its attacks.
There have been several waves of strikes on Israel since then, with at least three people reported killed in the city of Beersheba.

Israel issues warning over fourth wave of missiles
The Israeli military says it has identified a fresh wave of missiles launched from Iran and issued another order for residents to take cover.
“The defence systems are working to intercept the threat. You must enter the protected areas upon receiving the alert, and remain there until further notice,” according to the statement posted on X.
No IRGC confirmation yet as Israel hit by new wave of missiles
We are dealing with a highly fragile situation.
At least for the past one or two hours, we can say that we haven’t received any reports about the continuation of strikes. We haven’t received any reports regarding the sounds of explosions here in the capital and other cities.
This is what we have so far but still, I can tell you this is a very fragile situation.
First, Iran is saying that it’s going to retaliate as long as Israeli strikes continue.
Second, we have to keep in mind that so many infrastructures related to nuclear facilities as well as military sites, as well as buildings in residential areas, were targeted by the Israelis and now there is this public pressure on the establishment in Iran to continue this retaliation.
We received reports about missiles being launched from the Iranian territory. On that we have no confirmation so far because, basically, when the IRGC launches missiles, we’ve got statements from them about details, confirming these strikes have taken place. We are waiting for further statements coming out.
We are dealing with a highly intricate situation in which any movement could run the risk of further escalation.
Ex-US official says Trump’s Iran-Israel deal ‘neither verifiable nor permanent’
Ned Price, a former spokesperson for the US State Department, has criticised the ceasefire deal between Iran and Israel announced by Trump, describing it as “neither verifiable nor permanent”.
In a series of posts on social media, Price, who served under Trump’s predecessor, Joe Biden, wrote, “Success would’ve been permanently and verifiably preventing Iran from ever obtaining a nuke, just the type of arrangement Trump needlessly tore up in 2018.”
He was referring to Trump’s decision to abandon the nuclear agreement signed between Iran and world powers in 2015, under then-President Barack Obama.
Price said the Trump administration should “leverage this moment” to reach a new diplomatic deal, warning that the US involvement in the war could push Tehran “to sprint towards a nuclear device”.
Three killed in Israel’s Beersheba
The Times of Israel and Ynet News are reporting that the three people who were said to be in critical condition following a missile attack on the southern Israeli city have now been pronounced dead.
The report comes as sirens continue to blare across Israel amid a third wave of attacks.
Israel says the missiles are from Iran. There’s been no comment from Iran so far.
Three in ‘critical condition’ in Israel’s Beersheba: Report
We have more on the missile attack on the southern Israeli city.
The Times of Israel, citing the emergency service, is reporting that medics are treating three people in critical condition and another who was moderately hurt.
Five others were lightly wounded, it added.
Footage from the scene, verified by Al Jazeera’s Sanad agency, shows damage to a multistorey building and parked cars. Other footage taken from afar shows a huge cloud of smoke in the sky.
Iranian scientist killed in Israeli strike: Report
According to Iran’s English language channel Press TV, nuclear scientist Sedighi Saber was “assassinated” in an Israeli strike in Tehran.
Earlier reports said the attack on Saber was carried out near the main streets of Ferdowsi and Vali Asr in the downtown area of the Iranian capital.
Several of Iran’s top nuclear scientists have been targeted by Israeli strikes since it launched its military operation against the country on June 13.
Israel says Iran has launched a third wave of missiles
The Israeli military says a third Iranian missile attack is under way and is urging the public to take shelter.
One person ‘critically injured’ in Israel’s Beersheba: Report
We’ve been following reports of a missile hit in Beersheba.
The Ynet News site says one person was “critically injured” and that five others were lightly wounded following a “direct” missile hit in the southern Israeli city.
The outlet says the missile was one of four fired in the second volley. Another two were fired in the first salvo and were intercepted, it added.
Leaders of Japan and South Korea to skip NATO summit after US strike on Iran
Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru and South Korean President Lee Jae-myung have both cancelled their plans to attend a NATO leaders’ summit in The Hague this week following the US military strikes on Iran.
A spokesperson for South Korea’s presidential office said Lee’s absence would be due to “a confluence of domestic matters and the volatile situation in the Middle East”.
Ishiba’s office cited “various circumstances” as the reason for his last-minute cancellation, but Japan is also in the midst of a series of grim anniversaries marking 80 years since the end of World War II. They include the anniversary of the Battle of Okinawa this week, which killed 200,000 people – many of them civilians – and the atomic bombing of Nagasaki and Hiroshima in August.
Japan and South Korea were two of the four non-NATO countries invited to attend the event, alongside Australia and New Zealand.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said last week he would also not attend the summit in person.
All three leaders will send deputies in their place.
Israel says it’s now safe to exit bomb shelters
The military says people can now leave their shelters and that “rescue forces are operating in several areas of the country where reports of falls have been received”.
The Ynet News site said one of the missiles hit a building in the city of Beersheba in the Negev desert.
Trump says Israel and Iran asked him for peace ‘almost simultaneously’
The US president says the world and the Middle East will benefit greatly from the ceasefire he claims to have brokered between Israel and Iran.
“Israel & Iran came to me, almost simultaneously, and said, ‘PEACE!’ I knew the time was NOW. The World, and the Middle East, are the real WINNERS! Both Nations will see tremendous LOVE, PEACE, AND PROSPERITY in their futures,” he wrote in a post on Truth Social.
“They have so much to gain, and yet, so much to lose if they stray from the road of RIGHTEOUSNESS & TRUTH. The future for Israel & Iran is UNLIMITED, & filled with great PROMISE. GOD BLESS YOU BOTH!”
As we’ve been reporting, despite Trump’s claim of a ceasefire, Israel and Iran are continuing to trade attacks.
Explosions over Tel Aviv as sirens blare in central Israel
The Reuters news agency says explosions have been heard over Tel Aviv, as air raid sirens blare in central and southern Israel.
First Iranian missile fired towards Israel since Trump ceasefire announcement
This would be something like the 25th missile attack the Iranians have launched, and actually the first since the announcement of that ceasefire agreement by US President Donald Trump.
The Iranian foreign minister had come out and said that Iran didn’t agree to anything but if the Israelis wanted to stop their aggression, Iran would stop firing as well.
So these missiles are continuing to get fired and the Israelis say they are going to keep pounding targets inside of Iranian territory.
Israeli officials speaking anonymously to Israeli media have also said that there are still a wide range of targets that Israel wants to strike inside Iran and that they are not finished with their goals.
But the main objective for them at this point has been achieved. Of depleting those nuclear capabilities. But when it comes to the missile fire that is still going to head toward Israel, well, it seems that is still in session

Israel says new Iranian missile attack under way
The Israeli military says Iran has launched a new wave of missiles towards the country and urged the public to take shelter.
It said air raid sirens have been activated in several areas of the country.
The new announcement comes moments after the military told the public that an earlier strike had ended and that it was now safe to leave bomb shelters.
