- Israeli attacks on Gaza City kill at least 39 today, a day after killing at least 78 Palestinians in attacks across the besieged Strip. At least 61 people have been killed in Gaza today by Israeli attacks across the enclave.
- Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office says Israel will send negotiators to Qatar for ceasefire talks, but that changes to the deal requested by Hamas are “unacceptable”.
- The Palestinian Health Ministry says Israeli forces have killed at least 743 Palestinians in attacks at sites run by the US- and Israel-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) since late May.
- Israel’s war on Gaza has killed at least 57,418 people and wounded 136,261, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. An estimated 1,139 people were killed in Israel during the October 7, 2023, attacks, and more than 200 were taken captive.
Netanyahu delays departure to Washington: Report
Israeli media is reporting that the Israeli prime minister is delaying his departure for Washington, scheduled at 4pm (13:00 GMT), to take part in discussions on an updated bill proposal on the conscription of ultra-Orthodox men for military service.
The Times of Israel cited Hebrew media as saying that PM Benjamin Netanyahu’s flight schedule had been pushed back to later this evening.
The controversy over the conscription of Haredi Jews threatens to destabilise Netanyahu’s coalition government, which is reliant on religiously conservative parties that oppose the move.
The military has called up tens of thousands of soldiers and says it needs all the manpower it can get, as casualties in Gaza continue to mount.
Israeli army claims Hamas commander killed in northern Gaza
The Israeli military says Ramzi Ramadan Abd Ali Saleh, who it says was the commander of Hamas’s naval force in northern Gaza, has been killed in Gaza City.
The army also listed other Hamas commanders it claimed to have killed in a statement, including Hisham Ayman Atiya Mansour, the deputy head of Hamas’s mortar shell array, and Nissim Muhammad Suleiman Abu Sabha, who allegedly belonged to the same group.
Houthis ‘obligated’ to confront US, Israel
Houthi leader Abdel-Malik al-Houthi said Israel, the US and their allies are considered a “serious threat for the Muslim ummah” who are trying to erase the religious identity of nations and belittle them through undermining their values and taking their resources.
“What the enemy is committing, including what it is doing in Palestine through genocide and all forms of injustice and crime, obligates us, as a matter of faith-based responsibility, to confront American and Israeli tyranny,” he said.
The Houthis had also organised another large rally on Friday, as part of weekly demonstrations to protest the war on Gaza and attacks on Yemen.

Pro-Palestinian platform opens Pamplona’s running with the bulls festival
Pro-Palestinian activists have kicked off a new edition of the running with the bulls in the northern Spanish city of Pamplona with the traditional fireworks at noon (10:00 GMT).
The platform Yala Nafarroa con Palestina (Let’s Go Navarra with Palestine), which accuses Israel of genocide, was selected to open the nine-day St Fermin Festival after a public vote held in Pamplona.
One of its members, Eduardo Ibero Albo, described the decision to the news agency DFP as an opportunity to “give Palestine a voice”.
The festival, also known locally as Sanfermines, is dedicated to the city’s patron saint and has been celebrated in the 200,000-inhabitant city of the Navarra region since the end of the 16th century, always at the beginning of July.
Today’s death toll from Israeli attacks rises
Sources in Gaza hospitals tell Al Jazeera that at least 61 people have been killed in Israeli air strikes and attacks on various parts of the Gaza Strip since dawn today.
Of this number, at least 39 have been killed in Gaza City alone.
What’s in Trump’s ceasefire proposal? Can it end the war?
Discussions of a ceasefire in Gaza have picked up in recent days.
Trump said last week that Israel had agreed to the conditions for a 60-day ceasefire and negotiators could meet again to carve out a path to ending Israel’s nearly 21-month-long war on Gaza.
Hamas said it delivered a “positive response” to mediators with amendments. Netanyahu called the Palestinian group’s changes “unacceptable” but sent negotiators to Qatar for talks nonetheless.
Netanyahu on Monday is to visit Washington, DC, where reports said Trump would like a deal.

Another Israeli attack on Gaza City kills three Palestinians
At least three people have been killed in an Israeli attack on as-Saftawi neighbourhood, in the northwest of Gaza City, a source at al-Shifa Hospital tells Al Jazeera.
At least 29 people have been killed in Gaza City since this morning, according to medical sources.
Victims of Israeli attacks reduced to pieces
Once again, we’re seeing a significant surge in aerial attacks across Gaza.
Those attacked include people inside tents, homes and simply walking on the streets or queuing for water and food in various areas across the Gaza Strip.
Yesterday, there was an attack near a small water desalination plant where people had gathered. That plant, located in the heart of Gaza City, has now been forced out of service after being struck.
Meanwhile, rescue efforts are continuing in the Tuffah neighborhood, where a Palestinian family lost many members. Some are believed to be trapped under the rubble.
Initial footage from the site shows Palestinian Civil Defence crews collecting remains from the ground. Many victims, including children, were reduced to small pieces which had to be placed in plastic bags for transfer to al-Shifa Hospital.
Palestinian killed, two wounded in raid near Nablus
One Palestinian was killed and several were wounded as Israeli forces stormed two homes in the town of Salem, east of Nablus, Wafa news agency is reporting.
Fighting broke out between residents and the Israeli army during the raid.
The Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) said a body was retrieved from one of the houses, but the identity has not yet been confirmed.
Two other residents were wounded by live bullets. A 62-year-old man was taken to hospital by the PRCS, while the other resident was arrested by Israeli forces.
Israeli forces blow up school in Gaza’s Rafah
The Israeli army has blown up another school in Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip.
In addition to their bombardment, Israeli soldiers have destroyed countless buildings across the besieged enclave since the start of the war by planting explosives inside. They have filmed and released footage of many such incidents.
How could an incident in the Red Sea be linked to Gaza?
United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) has reported an incident off the coast of Yemen near Hodeidah. Here is why such an incident in the Red Sea could be linked to the ongoing war on Gaza.
- Since the start of the war in October 2023, the Iran-aligned Houthis have fired missiles and drones at Israel and targeted key shipping routes in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden in what they say are acts of solidarity with the Palestinians.
- Both Israel and US forces have launched multiple deadly air strikes at the group in Yemen.
- The Houthis paused their attacks as a ceasefire was enacted in the enclave in January. However, according to the Houthis, as the truce fell apart in March, when several US air strikes hit northern Yemen, the Houthis carried out attacks on United States warships in the Red Sea and launched drones at military sites in Israel.
- Hundreds of US strikes in Yemen killed at least 250 people until early May, when US President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire that would “stop the bombing”.
Palestinian wounded by Israeli gunfire in West Bank raid
A Palestinian was wounded by Israeli gunfire after the army surrounded two homes in the town of Salem, east of Nablus, Wafa news agency is reporting.
Additional military reinforcements arrived in the area, Wafa added, citing the head of the Salem Village Council.
Far-right Israeli minister slams Gaza aid decision as ‘grave mistake’
Far-right Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has also accused Netanyahu of failing to ensure that Israel’s army is following government directives in prosecuting the war against Hamas in Gaza.
He said he was considering his “next steps” but stopped short of explicitly threatening to quit the coalition.
“The cabinet and the Prime Minister made a grave mistake yesterday in approving the entry of aid through a route that also benefits Hamas,” Smotrich said on X, saying the aid would ultimately reach Hamas and serve as “logistical support for the enemy during wartime”.
Israeli media reported that the government had voted to allow additional aid to enter northern Gaza.
Netanyahu meets Israel’s president ahead of departure for US
Netanyahu has met with Isaac Herzog before the prime minister flies to Washington, DC, with their discussions centring on the war in Gaza, according to the presidency.
Netanyahu is scheduled to visit the White House on Monday for talks with Trump.
“In his visit to Washington, the prime minister carries with him an important mission – advancing a deal to bring all our hostages home,” Herzog said in a statement.
Gaza officials slam US consulting group’s involvement in aid system
The Government Media Office in Gaza has condemned the US-based Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and its role in setting up the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) aid system, calling it an “American-Israeli scheme to displace our Palestinian people under a misleading humanitarian guise”.
On Saturday, The Financial Times reported that the BCG “modelled the costs of ‘relocating’ Palestinians from Gaza” and was involved in a “multimillion-dollar contract” to help launch the GHF, which it has since disavowed.
“We warn against the continuation of these criminal projects that market the crime of forced displacement as a ‘humanitarian solution’,” the Government Media Office said in a statement. “We hold all parties involved in or supporting these schemes fully responsible for the crimes committed against Palestinian civilians.”
Video clips have emerged showing Palestinians being shot at while trying to collect food aid at GHF sites. According to the Palestinian Health Ministry, more than 700 Palestinians have been killed by attacks at the aid sites.
UKMTO reports incident near Yemen’s Hodeidah
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations says it has received a report of an incident 51 nautical miles (94.5km) southwest of Yemen’s port city of Hodeidah.
In an update posted on X, the UKMTO said the vessel had been engaged by multiple small vessels that opened fire with small arms and self-propelled grenades.
It said an armed security team returned fire.
Israeli negotiators head to Qatar for ceasefire talks
Israel’s public broadcaster Kan is reporting that negotiators are heading to Qatar for indirect talks with Hamas.
“The negotiating team left for Doha for proximity talks on the remaining points of contention with Hamas,” Kan said on its website.
Earlier, Netanyahu said changes wanted by Hamas to the 60-day ceasefire proposal are “unacceptable”, but he has sent a delegation to Qatar for indirect talks with the Palestinian group.
More casualties reported across Gaza
We are now receiving news of more Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip. Here are the latest:
- A source at al-Shifa Hospital said six Palestinians were killed and many wounded in an Israeli attack on a school-turned-shelter for displaced people in Gaza City’s Shati refugee camp. Palestinian sources said the bombing targeted the Abu Asi School, noting that children were among those killed.
- Sources at Nasser Hospital said three Palestinians were killed by Israeli fire near an aid distribution site near Rafah in the south.
Israeli attacks across Gaza today have killed at least 48 people, including 36 in Gaza City.
Land grabs, settler violence in occupied West Bank ‘on the rise’
At the heart of the coalition agreement that brought about this right-wing government in Israel is the annexation of the occupied West Bank and expanding the illegal settlements.
We’ve seen over 70,000 Palestinians forcibly displaced from their homes since January because of the demolitions that are happening in the refugee camps in the northern West Bank as well as settler attacks across the territory.
So while Netanyahu is trying to get concessions from his government on Gaza for this temporary ceasefire while pledging that he is not committing to ending the war, the agenda on the West Bank is going on full steam ahead.
Demolitions, land grabs and settler violence and settler takeovers of land is on the rise while all eyes are on Gaza.

‘We have not received a response’ from Israel’s FM regarding allegations: UNRWA chief
Israel’s claims about UNRWA have put its staff at risk and harmed its reputation, the agency says in a post on X.
It quotes its Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini as saying he had sent a letter to the Israeli foreign minister last month, asking for evidence, but that there had been no response.
“In my letter, I also noted that the Government of Israel has not pursued any prosecutions within its criminal justice system, which would also require the presentation of credible evidence,” he is quoted as saying.
According to a UNRWA situation report, Israeli forces killed 272 staff members in Gaza and repeatedly attacked its buildings, including schools housing displaced people.
In October, Israel’s parliament passed two bills banning UNRWA operations, including occupied East Jerusalem, after accusing about a dozen agency staff of taking part in the October 7 attacks.
Amnesty chief says UK misusing antiterrorism laws amid ban on Palestine Action
Agnes Callamard says the UK government was abusing local antiterrorism laws following their banning of Palestine Action on Sunday.
“The UK government seems more bent on abusing terrorism laws to restrict protests rather than addressing the root cause behind these actions – livestreamed genocide in Gaza,” Callamard said during a speech at Amplify, Amnesty UK’s national conference.
The UK government announced last week that it planned to ban Palestine Action under the Terrorism Act 2000 after activists from the group broke into an air force base in southern England.
Two IRGC members killed defusing explosives left by Israeli forces
Two members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) have been killed while trying to defuse explosives in an area of western Iran hit by Israeli strikes last month, according to Iran’s Tasnim news agency.
Citing a statement from the IRGC, the report said: “Two members of the Guards were killed Sunday in Khorramabad while clearing the area of explosives left by the Zionist regime’s aggression.”
Israeli strikes during the 12-day war killed more than 900 people across Iran, its judiciary said.

Settlers damage agricultural facility in occupied West Bank
Israeli settlers have damaged an agricultural facility belonging to a Palestinian farmer on the outskirts of Kafr ad-Dik in Salfit province, Wafa news agency reports.
Quoting witnesses, Wafa said the settlers damaged the door of the facility, smashed its windows and destroyed the contents.

Witness recounts ‘loud explosion’ as dozens killed in Gaza City
We have been reporting on the deadly Israeli attacks on homes in Gaza City this morning.
Mahmoud al-Sheikh Salama, a witness to one of the attacks, said it took place at 2am (23:00 GMT on Saturday) while he was sleeping.
“We heard a loud explosion, and shortly after, another one. We rushed over … and people were trapped under the rubble – four families, a large number of residents,” he told Al Jazeera.
“We tried to search for survivors and managed to pull out two people alive from under the rubble after about three hours of struggle and breaking through the debris. We got two out alive – the rest were martyred and are still trapped beneath the rubble.”
