LIVE UPDATES: Israeli forces bulldozed cemetery, exhumed graves in southern Gaza

Mazzaltov World News provides you with the latest live coverage of Current Affairs, Sports, Health, Weather, Entertainment, Business and Travel News from around the world.

Here’s where things stand on Friday 11 July 2025:

  • Philippe Lazzarini, head of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, has accused Israel of engineering the “most cruel and Machiavellian scheme to kill” in Gaza, which has become “the graveyard of children and starving people”.
  • As the Israeli attacks intensify, signs of hunger become visible everywhere across the forcibly starved territory, according to our team on the ground.
  • Several people, including children, have been killed in an Israeli bombardment of the Halimah al-Saadiyah School in Jabalia an-Nazla, in northern Gaza.
  • Israel’s war on Gaza has killed at least 57,762 people and wounded 137,656, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. An estimated 1,139 people were killed in Israel during the October 7, 2023, attacks, and more than 200 were taken captive.

All civil defence vehicles out of service in Gaza City

A spokesman for the rescue organisation says that it no longer has any functioning ambulances in Gaza City due to relentless Israeli attacks.

He said that the group’s crews are moving in civilian cars to help dig out Palestinians who are trapped in rubble after Israeli strikes, but that the crews are unable to respond to distress calls.

45 killed since dawn

Sources across Gaza hospitals have told Al Jazeera that 45 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli attacks since morning.

Eleven aid seekers were among those killed.

WFP says Gaza hunger crisis ‘worse than ever’

The UN World Food Programme (WFP) has warned the hunger crisis in the Gaza Strip has reached an unprecedented level, with humanitarian efforts crippled by access restrictions.

“The situation is worse than I’ve ever seen it before,” said Carl Skau, WFP’s deputy executive director, during a news conference at UN headquarters in New York after his fourth visit to Gaza.

Skau revealed that the “humanitarian needs have never been higher” and noted that the UN’s “ability to respond and to assist has never been more constrained”.

“Malnutrition is surging,” he said, adding that 90,000 children are now in urgent need of treatment for malnutrition. “One in three people in Gaza go for days without eating.”

Seven killed in southern Gaza

The Kuwait Field Hospital in the besieged enclave says seven Palestinians have been killed in an Israeli attack on displaced persons’ tents in the al-Mawasi area, west of Khan Younis.

Israeli army kills four in central Gaza

A source at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital says four Palestinians were killed and others were injured in two Israeli air strikes on Deir el-Balah.

At least 31 people have been killed since morning, according to hospital sources in Gaza.

Death toll rises in settler attack on Sinjil

We’ve been reporting on the aftermath of an attack on the occupied West Bank town, which is near Ramallah, that has already claimed the life of one Palestinian and seen much property damage.

We can now report that a second person, a young man, has succumbed to gunshot wounds he received at the hands of the settlers.

UN warns Israeli aid restrictions in Gaza ‘life threatening’

The UN has warned that Israeli restrictions on humanitarian aid access into the Gaza Strip, including fuel deliveries, are placing countless lives at risk.

“Such denials are life-threatening,” UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said during a news conference, stressing that “every day without a ceasefire brings more preventable deaths in Gaza, children dying in pain, and hungry people shot while trying to reach the trickle of aid allowed” by Israel.

He noted that dozens were reportedly killed Friday in Rafah while trying to collect basic supplies for their families.

“Meanwhile, the fuel crisis in Gaza remains acute. Yesterday, for the second straight day, our colleagues were able to bring into Gaza about 75,000 liters of much-needed fuel,” Dujarric said. “However, these amounts are a small portion of what is required to sustain life-saving operations on a daily basis.”

Search ongoing for Palestinian missing after settler attack

We’ve been reporting on the Israeli settler attack in the town of Sinjil, north of Ramallah, that killed one Palestinian.

Our colleagues at Al Jazeera Arabic are now reporting that residents of Sinjil and al-Mazraa ash-Sharqiya are continuing efforts to locate a Palestinian man who was discovered missing after the attack.

Israeli forces kill 31 in Gaza today

At least 31 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks since morning, hospital sources have told Al Jazeera.

Among those killed, 10 were aid seekers, the sources added.

Israeli forces kill aid seeker

Gaza medics tell our team that another Palestinian seeking aid has been killed by Israeli fire in the north of the Gaza Strip, an attack that wounded several others.

Israel has killed more than 700 starving people waiting to receive aid in the Strip since late May.

Israeli soldier injured in Gaza: Military

A tank commander from the 82nd Battalion was “seriously injured” earlier today during fighting in the northern Gaza Strip, the Israeli army said in a post on X.

At least 887 Israeli soldiers have been killed in 21-month Gaza war, which has left more than 57,000 Palestinians dead.

‘There are no red lines any more’ UN expert Albanese says

The top UN expert on Palestinian rights says the US decision to place her under sanctions could have a “chilling effect” on people who engage with her and could restrict her movements but she plans to continue her work.

On Wednesday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that Francesca Albanese would be added to the US sanctions list for her actions, which he described as prompting illegitimate prosecutions of Israelis at the International Criminal Court.

Albanese said she now faces asset freezes and potential travel restrictions, warning that the US decision could set a “dangerous” precedent for human rights defenders worldwide.

“There are no red lines any more. … It is scary,” she told the Reuters news agency via video link from Bosnia and Herzegovina, where she was attending events for the 30th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide.

“It might block me from moving around. It will have a chilling effect on people normally engaging with me because for American citizens or for green card holders, this is going to be extremely problematic.”

Child killed in Israeli artillery attack in Gaza City

We have been reporting on Israeli attacks on the al-Tuffah neighborhood.

Sources at al-Ahli Arab Hospital have now told Al Jazeera that a child was killed in an Israeli artillery attack in the Gaza City neighborhood.

Israeli attack on home in northern Gaza kills one

According to a source at al-Ahli Arab Hospital, at least one Palestinian was killed and others were wounded following an Israeli attack that targeted a house on Jaffa Street in the Tuffah area, east of Gaza City.

At least 18 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire in the besieged enclave since morning, hospital sources tell Al Jazeera.

Israeli forces bulldozed cemetery, exhumed graves in southern Gaza: Palestinian officials

Gaza’s Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs has accused Israeli forces of desecrating a cemetery in southern Gaza with bulldozers and tanks, exhuming bodies from graves.

In a statement, the ministry said that the incident happened at the Turkish Cemetery in the al-Mawasi district, west of Khan Younis in southern Gaza, at dawn on Thursday. The area is heavily populated with displaced Palestinians and has been the site of intense Israeli military advances recently.

The ministry said that Israeli forces had “bulldozed and exhumed graves” in a “flagrant violation of the sanctity of the dead and a blatant assault on the sanctity of cemeteries and human dignity after death”.

It said that the incident happened as Israeli forces were demolishing camps for displaced Palestinians surrounding the cemetery. It added that Israeli forces had completely or partially destroyed about two-thirds of Gaza’s 60 cemeteries.

Gaza Health Ministry says hospitals in urgent need of fuel

A statement by the ministry says patients in Gaza’s hospitals “continue to be placed on the brink of death every day” due to lack of fuel in the enclave.

It said that the problem forced hospitals to ration fuel, which leads to cutting off electricity at some departments and postponing or halting some services, including kidney dialysis services.

“It also reduces the ability to operate a sufficient number of ambulances, forcing citizens to transport the injured and sick in animal-drawn carts,” the statement added.

The ministry called on the international community to work for more fuel to enter Gaza.

Earlier this year, Israel imposed a total blockade on Gaza for nearly three months, before partly lifting it while introducing a US and Israeli-backed scheme that largely bypasses the UN system.

Frequent attacks around the newly established aid distribution centres and convoys have killed hundreds of Palestinians since the new scheme was implemented.

Israeli settlers light fires near historic church ruins in occupied West Bank

Israeli settlers have again deliberately lit fires near the remains of a fifth-century church in the occupied West Bank.

The latest attack on the predominantly Christian village of Taybeh, near Ramallah, saw settlers light fires near the archaeological site of the ruins of the fifth-century Church of Saint George, and Palestinian homes.

The village has repeatedly been targeted with attacks and harassment from Israeli settlers in recent weeks, amid an escalation in attacks by settlers across the occupied West Bank.

Israel claims to have killed six Hamas senior naval commandos

The Israeli army says the killings came in a military operation conducted “over the past few months”, claiming without providing any evidence that the victims “had planned terror activities at sea against Israeli civilians and security forces.

It also claimed that some of those killed were involved in the planning of the October 7 attacks on Israel.

Tens of thousands scrambling for new shelter after latest forced displacement threat

The latest forced evacuation order by the Israeli military covers an area about half a mile from where I’m standing that has been largely turned into a displacement site. The latest estimate is that close to 80,000 displaced Palestinians from different parts of the Gaza Strip are sheltering there.

This area houses two major facilities – the university college complex and the UNRWA headquarters – that have been turned into shelters. Both have been bombed relentlessly by the Israeli military, with many of the buildings destroyed, leaving people to shelter within whatever is intact.

In addition, people have set up many makeshift tents in the vicinity of these two facilities, including the main roads connecting them.

Close to 80,000 people are now scrambling for a new shelter in Gaza City, but the entire area in the western part of the Gaza Strip is fully overcrowded, with many people now filling the areas all the way to the Gaza seaport.

We are seeing scenes of chaos, of intimidation and fear, and some say there’s no point in moving once again because another forced evacuation order will likely take place in the coming days. So people are staying despite the danger and the risk, because the Israeli military is not leaving any option that is rather safe for them and their families and their children.

With 80 percent or more of the total area of the Gaza Strip now categorised as combat zones and bombed areas, many of the people are now seeking shelter in whatever is left of this thin area of the western part of the Strip.

Netanyahu’s warlust making Israel ‘less secure’

Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu’s reliance on a military solution to issues, from Gaza to Iran, is making his country less secure in the long run, an Israeli journalist says.

Speaking to Al Jazeera, Gideon Levy, a columnist for Israel’s Haaretz newspaper, says that Israel’s military superiority might be the stuff of “action films”, but is failing to bring the country more security.

“What will we get by the end of the war?” he said. “You really think Israel is becoming a more secure place than two years ago? I don’t think so. Because you ignore the price.”

He said Israel was becoming “a pariah state”, which brought its own security threat. “Being a pariah state makes it a very unpleasant place to be in, and also dangerous,” he said.

“What is the benefit in the long run? Is Israel going to live on its own forever? There’s not one country in history that lived all its life only on its military power.”

Four people rescued from Gaza City rubble days after Israeli attack: Civil Defence

Gaza’s Civil Defence crew has rescued four Palestinians from the Al-Sarhi family who had been trapped for days in the Zeitoun neighbourhood of Gaza City, according to the emergency service.

Its statement published on Telegram also said that the casualties were being transferred to al-Ahli Hospital, with arrangements made through the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

Israeli forces destroy makeshift shelters in so-called ‘safe zone’

The al-Mawasi area at the western edge of Khan Younis is a place designated by the Israeli military as a “safe zone.” Yet, just two days ago, Israeli ground forces launched a sudden incursion here without any prior warning.

Flimsy and overcrowded makeshift shelters have been completely destroyed.

We can see people’s property torn apart, with the scale of destruction clearly visible and extensive. The damage isn’t limited to civilian homes, but also includes vehicles used for transportation. Families are trying to gather whatever remains of their shelters.

Eyewitnesses tell us that, during the incursion, Israeli forces carried out digging operations at a nearby public cemetery in the al-Mawasi area.

Witnesses said the military has taken some bodies [from the graves], with families now forced to relocate the bodies of their loved ones from this grave, as it is no longer safe.

Israeli attack kills one in Lebanon: Report

Lebanon’s official National News Agency says the raid, carried out by an Israeli drone, targeted a car in Nabatieh in southern Lebanon.

The agency reported that two other people were wounded in the attack.

The Israeli army has not yet released a statement regarding the attack.

Despite the ceasefire agreement signed between Israel and Hezbollah on November 27, 2024, Israel frequently carries out attacks on Lebanon, including on its capital, Beirut.

GHF boasts of ‘reinventing’ aid delivery despite hundreds killed at aid sites

The US and Israel-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) says it is “reinventing aid delivery in war zones”.

“Our secure and innovative channels mean aid is placed directly into the hands of those who desperately need it,” the group said on X.

However, the GHF, which began operating in the bombarded Palestinian enclave in late May, has drawn widespread criticism amid multiple reports that its contractors, as well as the Israeli troops guarding its sites, have opened fire on aid seekers.

More than 700 Palestinians have been killed while trying to collect aid from GHF sites. Several children are among the victims.

Leading humanitarian and human rights groups have demanded the immediate closure of the GHF, which they accused of “forcing two million people into overcrowded, militarised zones where they face daily gunfire and mass casualties”.

Israel issues new threats on Gaza City

The army’s Arabic language spokesperson has taken to X to again threaten neighbourhoods of Gaza City, specifically blocks 783 and 784.

Blaming Hamas attacks in the area, the spokesperson says that the army will soon attack the area with “extreme force”, ordering residents to flee for their lives.

Al Jazeera’s analysis found that, through similar threats, Israel has pushed the population of Gaza into a 74.4sq-km (28.7sq-mile) area of the Gaza Strip, representing about 20 percent of the enclave.

Palestinians wounded in Israeli settler attacks in occupied West Bank

Palestinians have sustained injuries in attacks carried out by Israeli settlers in two locations in the occupied West Bank, according to reports.

In the village of Susya, south of Hebron, two Palestinians were injured by settlers, the Palestine Red Crescent Society says.

Several Palestinians, including children, were also injured when Israeli settlers, protected by Israeli forces, attacked homes near the village of al-Maniya, southeast of Bethlehem, the Wafa news agency reported.

Trump, Netanyahu exchange confirms two-state solution died ‘long time ago’

An exchange between US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Washington clearly signalled that the US commitment to a two-state solution is dead and buried, Israeli journalist Gideon Levy says.

Asked by a reporter whether there would be a two-state solution, Trump deferred to Netanyahu, who replied that Palestinians should have powers to govern themselves, but not to threaten Israel, “which means that certain powers like overall security will always remain in our hands”.

Levy told Al Jazeera that the exchange was “an official declaration of the death” of the two-state solution, which in effect had died “a long time ago”.

He said there were “some benefits” to dealing with the reality of the situation, rather than continuing with the “masquerade” of a two-state solution, while Israeli settlers continue to occupy “any piece of land in the West Bank”.

“We have to face it: there will never be a Palestinian state and we have to think about the conclusions and the consequences, namely to think about a different vision,” said Levy.

“There is no serious chance for a Palestinian state as long as the occupation continues and above all as long as the settlement project continues.”
