LIVE UPDATES: Israel told to ‘end this barbarity’ in Gaza as more starve to death

Mazzaltov World News provides you with the latest live coverage of Current Affairs, Sports, Health, Weather, Entertainment, Business and Travel News from around the world.

Here’s where things stand on Monday 28 July 2025:

  • Israeli forces open fire on Palestinians waiting for food at sites in Gaza, killing at least 40 and wounding many others, with more than 80 dying in attacks since dawn.
  • Secretary-General Antonio Guterres says “nothing can justify the obliteration of Gaza that has unfolded before the eyes of the world” during talks on a two-state solution for Israel and Palestine at the UN.
  • At least 14 more Palestinians die of malnutrition over the last day including a baby.
  • The United Nations’ humanitarian chief tells Al Jazeera while Israel’s decision to allow more aid into Gaza is welcome, it is still just a “drop in the ocean” as severe restrictions continue to block life-saving deliveries.
  • Israel’s war on Gaza has killed at least 59,921 people and wounded 145,233. An estimated 1,139 people were killed in Israel during the Hamas-led October 7, 2023 attacks and more than 200 taken captive.

‘Outrage and condemnation are no longer adequate’ in Gaza: UNRWA chief

The head of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) says his staff on the ground have described people enduring the starvation crisis as “neither dead nor alive – walking corpses”.

Speaking at the UN conference on a two-state solution, Philippe Lazzarini said words of “outrage and condemnation are no longer adequate for what is unfolding”.

“There must be immediate action to impose a long-overdue ceasefire, to reverse deepening starvation, and to release every hostage … Once a ceasefire is in place, a massive scale-up of humanitarian assistance can be enabled by UNRWA’s large workforce,” Lazzarini said.

In the occupied West Bank, the UNRWA chief warned the situation has “deteriorated alarmingly”.

“Compounding the decimation of Gaza, the annexation of the occupied West Bank is now a declared political objective – as is the dismantling of UNRWA. In the West Bank, we are already witnessing the human cost of efforts to end UNRWA’s operations.”

US calls UN’s two-state solution conference a ‘publicity stunt’

The United States on Monday rejected as a “publicity stunt” a United Nations conference that brought dozens of ministers together to work towards a two-state solution between Israel and the Palestinians.

“This is a publicity stunt that comes in the middle of delicate diplomatic efforts to end the conflict,” State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce said in a statement.

“Far from promoting peace, the conference will prolong the war, embolden Hamas, and reward its obstruction and undermine real-world efforts to achieve peace.”

European Commission proposes suspension of Israeli access to Horizon programme

The European Commission has proposed suspending Israel’s access to EU funding for tech startups as pressure grows among the bloc to take a stronger stance over the catastrophic situation in Gaza.

The suggestion to partially suspend Israel’s involvement in the Horizon research programme, which can be reversed, will be discussed by the EU’s 27 countries on Tuesday and will need the majority of member states to approve it to go into force.

The proposal comes as a reaction to a review of Israel’s compliance with the human rights clause of an agreement governing its relations with the EU.

Israel condemned the recommendation, calling it “mistaken, regrettable, and unjustified”.

“At a time when Israel is fighting Hamas’s jihadist terrorism, any such decision only serves to strengthen Hamas and therefore undermines the chances of reaching a ceasefire and a framework for the release of hostages,” Israel’s Foreign Ministry said.

Israeli attack kills eight in Gaza City, Nuseirat refugee camp

At least eight people have been killed and others injured after an Israeli attack on Gaza City and the Nuseirat refugee camp, Wafa news agency reports.

Israeli drones targeted a group of civilians at the Sudanese intersection on al-Rashid Street, west of Gaza City, killing five people and wounding others.

At the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, three people were killed in an Israeli air strike that targeted a tent.

Medical sources tell Al Jazeera at least 88 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks since dawn, including 40 who were searching for food.

Saudi Arabia says Trump can be a ‘catalyst’ to end Gaza war

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud has said the US is an “essential actor” in the region and for peace and has called for US President Donald Trump to help secure a ceasefire in Gaza.

“I’m firmly in the belief that US engagement and the engagement of President Trump can be a catalyst for an end to the immediate crisis in Gaza and the potential resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in the longer term,” the Saudi foreign minister said.

“So obviously we, as strong partners of the US, continue to work closely and we hope that the US will continue to lead efforts for peace, and we have tremendous faith and respect in President Trump.”

Germany to airdrop aid into Gaza with Jordan

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz says Berlin will immediately launch an airdrop to deliver humanitarian aid into Gaza due to the “catastrophic” situation there.

The chancellor added Berlin will also prepare for a Gaza reconstruction conference in coordination with regional partners Britain and France, saying, “no further expulsions from the Gaza Strip must occur”.

Merz said while the government welcomed Israel’s announcement of a 10-hour pause in fighting every day in parts of Gaza for the distribution of aid as an “important first step”, it agreed much more must follow.

Germany will do what it can to help alleviate the situation, conducting an airdrop in cooperation with Jordan to deliver aid into Gaza, he said.

“We know that this can only provide very limited help for the people in Gaza, but it is nonetheless a contribution we are eager to make,” Merz said.

Palestinians injured in settler attack near Hebron

Two Palestinians sustained wounds after Israeli settlers raided the village of Umm al-Khair in Masafer Yatta, south of Hebron.

Wafa news agency cited activist Osama Makhamrah as saying settlers opened fire on Palestinians while they were on their land and near their homes.

One person was shot with live ammunition and taken by Israeli forces to an unknown location. Another was beaten by a settler and transferred by Red Crescent paramedics to Yatta Governmental Hospital.

Makhamrah condemned the attacks, which he said are backed by Israeli troops and aim to seize Palestinian land and expand settlement activity in villages and hamlets across southern Hebron.

Hamas accuses Israel of committing genocide in Gaza

Hamas again accused the far-right Israeli government of carrying out “systematic genocide” against Palestinians in Gaza and called on the International Criminal Court (ICC) to take urgent action.

In a statement, Hamas said Israel is deliberately targeting all aspects of life in Gaza through mass killings, starvation, and the destruction of infrastructure, constituting what it called “one of the most horrific crimes of the modern era”.

Hamas said Israel is using humanitarian aid as a tool while pursuing a policy of mass starvation to pressure a population under siege.

The group called on the ICC to prosecute Israeli leaders, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, for war crimes and genocide.

‘Horrors upon horrors’: How US Congress responded to mass hunger in Gaza

The images of emaciated children coming out of Gaza have moved some of Israel’s staunchest supporters in the United States Congress to decry the humanitarian situation in the besieged Palestinian territory ravaged by Israeli-imposed starvation.

Some Democratic lawmakers pointedly condemned Israel over the past few days, slamming the US and Israeli-backed GHF food distribution mechanism that has led to the killing of more than 1,000 Palestinian aid seekers.

“This is the reality: Having already killed or wounded 200,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, the extremist Israeli government is using mass starvation to engineer the ethnic cleansing of Gaza,” progressive Senator Bernie Sanders said.

UK, US commit to bring end to ‘misery and starvation’ in Gaza

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and US President Trump discussed the “appalling scenes” in Gaza and agreed “urgent action” is needed to end the catastrophe.

A statement by Downing Street said Starmer and Trump committed to working together to “bring an end to the misery and starvation” and the immediate release of captives in Gaza.

“They reiterated their calls for an immediate ceasefire to pave the way for peace in the region, and the Prime Minister welcomed the President’s efforts to secure this, and shared the plans he is working on with other European leaders to bring about a lasting peace,” Downing Street said.

Gaza death toll rises to 77 since dawn

Israeli attacks have killed at least 77 people across Gaza today, medical sources tell Al Jazeera.

Among those killed, 31 were aid seekers.

Israel’s war on Gaza has killed at least 59,921 people and wounded 145,233 since October 2023.

The number of dead is estimated to be far higher, with thousands of bodies buried in the vast debris of blown-up buildings.

Israeli drone targets motorcycle in southern Lebanon

An Israeli drone targeted a motorcycle in the Baraka area of Bint Jbeil in southern Lebanon, according to state-run National News Agency (NNA).

Separately, NNA reported an Israeli drone was flying at low altitude over the capital Beirut and its southern suburbs.

Israeli forces continue to carry out near-daily attacks on parts of Lebanon despite a ceasefire agreed with Hezbollah last November.

If you’re just joining us

Here’s a recap of the latest developments:

  • Israeli forces have shot and killed at least five Palestinians seeking aid near Morag corridor, north of Rafah.
  • The dead are among at least 65 people killed in Israeli attacks in Gaza since dawn in spite of Israeli-declared “humanitarian pauses” in certain areas.
  • US President Donald Trump appears to have recalibrated his stance on Gaza, expressing concern about starving children while pressing Israel’s leader to take action.
  • A United Nations conference focusing on a two-state solution for Israel and Palestine is under way in New York.
  • Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammed Mustafa said the event sends a message that peace will be achieved “through our independence, not our destruction”.
  • Two prominent Israeli human rights groups – B’Tselem and Physicians for Human Rights – released reports saying Israel’s actions in Gaza amount to “genocide”

Israel’s opposition leader calls for immediate end to war on Gaza

Yair Lapid, head of the opposition in Israel’s parliament, says the government needs to immediately end the war in Gaza, calling it “not a complete victory but a complete disaster”.

“If we don’t end the war now, the hostages will not return, the [military] will continue to lose its best fighters, the humanitarian disaster will worsen, the world will close itself off to Israelis,” Lapid warned.

He called on a coalition of Arab countries, led by Egypt, to run Gaza.

“The management of humanitarian aid in Gaza has collapsed. It simply doesn’t work,” said Lapid, adding that Israel is helping Hamas as the humanitarian situation continues to worsen.

Israeli settlers shoot and wound Palestinian near Ramallah

Israeli settlers have shot a Palestinian man during an attack on the village of Kafr Malik, east of Ramallah, in the occupied West Bank.

The man sustained wounds in the hand, the Wafa news agency said, quoting local sources.

The settlers stormed the al-Manatir and al-Kasara areas as well as poultry farms on the outskirts of the village. Residents confronted them, and the settlers opened fire.

Israeli violence in the West Bank has escalated dramatically since the start of the war on Gaza. Attacks by settlers, who are often backed by Israeli soldiers, have also surged against Palestinians and their property and take place with impunity.

Mother of Israeli captive calls on Netanyahu to return all held in Gaza

The mother of Metan Tsangauker, an Israeli captive held in Gaza, says the time has come for the prime minister to make a decision during a cabinet meeting tonight to discuss the war.

“A comprehensive agreement to return all 50 hostages without phases, without selection and the end of the war [is] long overdue, followed by closure for all the hostages’ families, bringing the fallen to a proper burial, and beginning the physical and emotional rehabilitation of the living hostages,” Einav Tsangauker wrote on X.

“Only a comprehensive agreement to return all the hostages and end the war will we be able to think about tomorrow. Bring them all back. All the hostages’ families are with you. The people are with you. I am with you.”

France’s demands for Palestinian statehood ‘disturbing’

Al Jazeera’s senior political analyst Marwan Bishara says despite the outcry over Palestinians starving in Gaza, there is “zero pressure” on Israel.

“The public mood in Western nations has also changed with more and more pressure on governments to do something, and yet I would say in London and Washington there is very little forthcoming on what there is to be done,” Bishara said as a UN meeting on a two-state solution was being held, which Israel and the US both boycotted.

Bishara said that while France has announced it will recognise a Palestinian state by September, its demands for recognition are “disturbing”.

“They’re not just transactional. They are cynical. They’re asking everything from the Palestinian Authority to changes to the curriculum in schools – something the Israelis have been asking forever … up until demanding that the Palestinian Authority disarm Hamas.”

‘Mix of frustration and hope’ in Gaza amid new aid push

While Israel has announced it is implementing a “humanitarian pause”, the situation on the ground tells a very different story. Over the past few hours, Israeli attacks have taken place where people were trying to collect aid, specifically near the Morag Corridor.

Further attacks on aid seekers occurred in central and southern parts of Gaza. It’s a very grim reality at a time when it’s supposed to be safe for Palestinians to move around and get food supplies.

The general sentiment on the ground is a mix of frustration and hope for the continuation of these aid deliveries to the Strip. But what has been sent remains a trickle compared to the needs of Gaza’s population.

Gaza Civil Defence carries out dozens of rescue operations amid Israeli attacks

Gaza’s Civil Defence agency says its teams carried out 44 rescue operations across the Gaza Strip in the past 24 hours during ongoing Israeli bombardment.

In its daily report, the agency said the missions included 10 firefighting efforts, three rescue missions, 20 medical evacuations, and 11 other emergency responses.

Here are key incidents by governorate:

North Gaza:

  • A fire was extinguished in an apartment belonging to the Ashour family after it was struck by Israeli artillery.
  • A gunshot victim was evacuated from the al-Mashtal area to al-Shifa Hospital.
  • Another wounded person was transferred from the as-Saftawi area after being shot by an Israeli quadcopter drone.

Gaza City:

  • Firefighters responded to a blaze in the al-Assi residential building following an Israeli strike on al-Nafaq Street.
  • Displaced people were evacuated from the al-Deira Hotel due to cracks in the building’s structure.
  • Two sick individuals were transported from the Amir al-Mansi School, which is sheltering displaced families, to al-Shifa Hospital.

Central Gaza:

  • The body of a slain Palestinian was recovered near MawaBureij and transported to al-Awda Hospital.

Khan Younis:

  • Three bodies were retrieved and 12 people rescued from a house belonging to the Nofal family in al-Mawasi, near the industrial zone.
  • Four injured individuals were transferred to Nasser Hospital after an Israeli strike on an apartment building in al-Mawasi.

Rafah:

  • Four medical cases were transferred from al-Mawasi to the British Hospital and the Red Cross medical facility for treatment.

‘Historic opportunity’ for Israeli-Palestinian peace

Addressing the UN conference in New York, Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Mohammed Mustafa described the event as a message of hope to both Israel and Palestine.

“This conference is a message to the Palestinian people that the world supports us in the realisation of our rights, including to a sovereign state”, he said.

It is also a message to the Israeli people that “there is a path to peace and regional integration – it will be achieved through our independence, not our destruction”, he added.

“We hope they hear this message and grasp this historical opportunity.”

Mustafa said “all states have a responsibility to act now to end the war on our people in Gaza” and voiced support for Qatari, Egyptian and US-led ceasefire mediation efforts.

“The massacres and the engineered starvation by Israel must be brought to an immediate end,” he said.

‘End this barbarity’: Spain to airdrop 12 tonnes of aid into Gaza

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez says stopping the starvation in Gaza is a “moral, political and humanitarian imperative”.

“The government is already preparing a shipment of food for the Strip. But the only true solution is for Netanyahu to activate a ceasefire, open the land humanitarian corridor and end this barbarity,” Sanchez said.

Spain’s military is planning to airdrop 12 tonnes of food into Gaza this week, joining Arab states, such as Jordan and the United Arab Emirates.

Airdrops have been criticised as being inadequate for the immense needs of Palestinians after 21 months of war and blockades.

‘Nothing can justify the obliteration of Gaza’: UN chief

Speaking at the opening of the UN conference in New York, Secretary-General Antonio Guterres says Israel and Palestine are at a “breaking point” with a two-state solution further away than ever before.

“We are here today with our eyes wide open, fully aware of the challenges before us,” Guterres said. “We know that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has endured for generations, defying hopes, defying diplomacy, defying countless resolutions and indeed defying international law.”

But “its persistence is not inevitable. It can be resolved,” he said, adding the realities of the war on Gaza make forging a two-state solution even more pressing.

“Nothing can justify the obliteration of Gaza that has unfolded before the eyes of the world,” Guterres said. “Precisely because of the grim realities, we must do even more to realise the two-state solution. … Today’s conference is a rare and indispensable opportunity.”

Trump raises new Gaza aid plan, but offers few details

Trump’s latest comments on the humanitarian situation in Gaza include some very strident criticism of Israel.

After being asked how much of this is Israel’s responsibility, Trump said: Israel “has a lot of responsibility” and “I think Israel can do a lot”.

Earlier, he was asked whether he agreed with Netanyahu’s assessment that there is no starvation in the Gaza Strip. “Not particularly,” he responded. “I see it, and you can’t fake that … That’s real starvation stuff.”

Trump went on to say the humanitarian situation is “our priority, getting children fed”. He outlined what looks like a brand new plan – working with allies, including the UK and the EU – to set up new food centres all over the Gaza Strip that have no boundaries or fences, that people can access more easily, appearing to criticise the chaotic conditions in which food is being distributed now by GHF, an organisation that is US-backed.

But it seems there is no detail as to exactly how or when those changes may come about.

France says ‘no alternative’ to two-state solution

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot says there is “no alternative” to a two-state solution for Israel and Palestine as he opened a UN conference on the matter.

“Only a political, two-state solution will help respond to the legitimate aspirations of Israelis and Palestinians to live in peace and security. There is no alternative,” he said.

Israel has reiterated countless times there will be no process towards a two-state solution as it continues its war on Gaza.

Israeli rights group findings of Gaza genocide refute Israeli narrative: Hamas

Hamas says a report by an Israeli human rights group that found Israel is committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza eliminated “any moral or legal justification for continuing to adopt the Israeli narrative of what is happening in the Gaza Strip”.

In a statement, Hamas said the organisation’s research “refutes the remaining false pretexts that international political, media, and human rights circles have been promoting”.

“The two organisations’ testimony indicates that the occupation government is planning to carry out its crime in other areas of the Palestinian territories,” it added.

Gaza death toll rises to 65 since dawn

Across the war-battered enclave, Israeli attacks have killed at least 65 people, medical sources tell Al Jazeera.

Among those killed, 23 were aid seekers.

Since Israel’s war on Gaza began in October 2023, at least 59,921 people have been killed and 145,233 wounded.

Senior Netanyahu advisers in the US for talks on Gaza, Iran: Report

Israeli Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer and National Security Council head Tzachi Hanegbi have travelled to the US, where they’re expected to discuss Gaza and Iran with White House officials, the Axios news website reports.

The senior Netanyahu advisers are expected to hold talks with White House envoy Steve Witkoff, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and other senior officials this week, Axios quoted an unnamed senior Israeli official as saying.

The move comes just days after Netanyahu recalled his negotiating team from Doha, where ceasefire talks were being held, following Hamas’s response to a Witkoff truce proposal.

Earlier, Trump said the time has come for Israel’s war on Gaza to “end” and a ceasefire is “possible”.

UN conference on two-state solution kicks off

A United Nations conference focused on a two-state solution for Israel-Palestine is now under way in New York City.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot and UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres have delivered opening statements.

We’ll bring you their remarks shortly.

Netanyahu denies Israel has ‘starvation policy’ for Gaza

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu says “there is no starvation” and “no policy of starvation” in Gaza, defying reports of mounting malnutrition deaths caused by Israel’s months-long aid blockade.

In comments carried by Israel’s Arutz Sheva media, Netanyahu vowed Israel will “continue to fight till we achieve the release of our hostages and the destruction of Hamas’s military and governing capabilities”.

“They shall be there no more,” said Netanyahu.

Trump tells Netanyahu to take action, citing Gaza’s emaciated children

Trump seems to be recalibrating his stance on Gaza, expressing concern about the humanitarian situation and urging Israel’s leader to take action as images of emaciated children continue to emerge.

The US and others are giving money and food to Gaza and  Netanyahu has “got to sort of like run it”, Trump told reporters in Scotland.

“I mean, some of those kids – that’s real starvation stuff. I want him to make sure they get the food. I want to make sure they get the food.”

Israel’s Gantz calls for Arab nations to manage Gaza

Chairman of Israel’s National Unity party Benny Gantz says reports of soldiers being tasked with securing food convoys in Gaza are “serious and alarming”.

“I have warned, and I warn again, we are heading toward a situation where our children will be dealing with sewage in Gaza,” Gantz wrote on X.

“It is time to pursue a solution that includes an administration of Arab countries to manage Gaza. Security control must remain in our hands. But our fighters must not risk their lives to take care of Gazans.”

At least 7 people killed by Israeli fire in Rafah, Khan Younis

Israeli gunfire in Rafah and Khan Younis in southern Gaza have killed at least seven people, the Wafa news agency reports.

Five people were killed and dozens of aid seekers wounded by Israeli fire north of Rafah.

Near the Bani Suheila roundabout east of Khan Younis, two young men were also killed by Israeli snipers.

Starmer says Hamas can ‘play no role’ in future Gaza governance

Starmer says while the focus should be on getting humanitarian aid into Gaza, “we also need to look beyond that situation to what then happens in the event of a ceasefire.”

“We have to be absolutely clear that Hamas can play no part in any future governance in Palestine,” the prime minister said at a news conference with Trump. “It’s really important that we’re clear about what triggered this, who took the hostages.”

Beginning today, France and Saudi Arabia are to co-host a three-day UN conference in New York focused on a two-state solution for Israel and Palestine.

UK’s Starmer says ‘images of starving children revolting’

The British prime minister, sitting alongside Trump in Scotland, also weighed in on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, describing it as “absolutely intolerable”.

“Certainly speaking for the British public and myself, those images of starving children in particular are revolting,” Starmer said. “And there’s a sense of revulsion in the British public at what they’re seeing. They know – and we know – humanitarian aid needs to get in at speed, at volume.”

He added: “Yes, some can be airdropped, but the trucks need to get in because that’s the only way you can get the volume in.”

Trump says US will set up walk-in ‘food centres’ in Gaza

Describing the current humanitarian situation in the enclave as “crazy”, Trump said the US would help set up new “food centres where the people can walk in” with “no boundaries”.

“We’re not going to have fences,” he said, adding that the United Kingdom would support the initiative.

The notorious GHF, which took over aid delivery in Gaza in May, uses a fenced-off system that packs Palestinians into tight quarters to receive food. Deadly violence and crowd crushes are routine.

EU to consider suspending Israel’s access to Horizon funding

European commissioners are set to discuss a proposal to partially suspend Israel’s access to the EU’s Horizon Europe research programme, amid mounting pressure from member states to hold Israel accountable over the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Calls for action intensified last week, when several European Union member states accused Israel of failing to meet its commitments under an agreement aimed at improving humanitarian access to Gaza.

Israel has participated in EU research frameworks since 1996, contributing to joint science and innovation projects. Horizon Europe, the bloc’s current research programme, is worth nearly 100 billion euros ($117bn).

The debate over Horizon comes shortly after the European Commission refused to suspend the EU-Israel Association Agreement, despite mounting calls from rights groups and some member states.

Amnesty International condemned the decision, calling it a “cruel and unlawful betrayal” of the EU’s human rights obligations.

Trump says Hamas has become ‘very difficult to deal with’

US President Trump says Hamas has resisted releasing the final 20 living captives it’s believed to be holding in Gaza.

“Hamas has become very difficult to deal with in the last couple of days because they don’t want to give up these last 20,” Trump said in Scotland. “They think as long as they have them, they have protection. But I don’t think it can work that way.”

On June 24, the US recalled its negotiators from Qatar, with special envoy Steve Witkoff saying Hamas’s latest proposal showed “a lack of desire to reach a ceasefire”.

‘We have to get the kids fed,’ says Trump

We can now bring you more comments from US President Donald Trump speaking to the press in Scotland about the war on Gaza.

Trump called the humanitarian situation in the enclave “terrible” and said, “We have to get the kids fed.”

He touted what he said were strong US contributions to aid in Gaza, saying Washington sent $60m dedicated to food aid last week. “We only hope the food goes to the people that need it,” said Trump.

In May, the US-backed GHF took over aid distribution in Gaza, sidelining the United Nations and other international groups.

Humanitarian officials have described the GHF-led system as disastrous, with only limited aid distributed at closed military sites near where hundreds of desperately hungry Palestinians have been killed while waiting for aid.

PRCS says foetus saved after mother killed in Israeli strike on Khan Younis home

Medical teams at the al-Mawasi Field Hospital in southern Gaza have announced that they saved the life of a foetus whose mother was killed in an Israeli air attack, according to the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS).

The mother, a member of the al-Zarab family, was killed when Israeli forces targeted their home in the al-Mawasi area, west of Khan Younis, PRCS said in a statement on X.

Despite what the organisation described as “extremely challenging field conditions” and severe shortages of medical supplies, doctors performed an emergency Caesarean section in a desperate attempt to save the infant.

“The team carried out a complex emergency Caesarean section in a determined effort to save the baby,” the PRCS said. The newborn was then transferred to the neonatal unit for specialised care, the group added.

The al-Mawasi area, previously designated by Israeli forces as a so-called “humanitarian zone,” has been repeatedly targeted by air attacks, despite being filled with displaced families who fled fighting elsewhere in Gaza.

Israeli forces bulldoze Palestinian farmland, olive trees, near Jenin

Israeli forces have destroyed farmland and olive trees in the Palestinian locale of Khirbet Masoud, near Jenin in the occupied West Bank, according to the Wafa news agency.

The forces bulldozed property and erected signposts as part of an effort to expand a settlement outpost there, said Wafa, citing the village council head of the nearby town of Zababdeh.

So far in 2025, Israeli forces have demolished at least 1,039 Palestinian-owned structures in the occupied West Bank, according to data from the UN’s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

Egyptian president urges Trump to stop war in Gaza

Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has publicly called on Trump to use his influence to halt Israel’s war on Gaza and ensure the entry of humanitarian aid into the besieged enclave.

In a televised speech, the Egyptian president said, “He is capable of stopping the war.”

The Egyptian leader urged Washington to exert all possible pressure to bring the conflict to an end and to open the way for vital relief to reach Palestinians trapped by months of Israeli bombardment and siege.

Five aid seekers killed near Morag Corridor, daily death toll rises to 55

Nasser Hospital has reported that five Palestinians seeking aid were killed and others were injured in an Israeli attack near the Morag Corridor, north of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip.

Medical sources told Al Jazeera that at least 55 Palestinians have been killed and more than 80 others injured in Israeli attacks across Gaza since dawn today, including 17 people while waiting for aid.

‘Their mother was killed’: Children injured in Israeli bombing near Khan Younis

Among the most distressing incidents in the past 24 hours has been the bombing of tents sheltering displaced people in al-Mawasi.

Video verified by Al Jazeera shows children lying on a hospital bed, wounded from the air strike that killed their mother and injured several other members of their family.

The footage captures the aftermath of the attack with one caption reading: “Their mother was killed. … The children were injured in an Israeli airstrike targeting the tents of displaced families in al-Mawasi, west of Khan Younis.”

Activists also documented emotional scenes showing the wounded children being treated in yet another reminder of the escalating toll on civilians.

Trump says people in Gaza need food, safety and it’s time for war to end

US President Donald Trump, currently on a visit to Scotland, has addressed the war in Gaza, saying the time has come to “end it” and a ceasefire is “possible”.

“I told Israel, I told Bibi [Netanyahu] that you’re going to now maybe have to do it a different way,” Trump said. “It’s a tragic situation, frankly.”

Speaking alongside British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Trump also said people in Gaza need food and safety right now, a situation he said he would discuss with Starmer.

Israeli rights groups say Israel’s actions in Gaza amount to genocide

Two prominent rights groups in Israel have issued reports saying Israel is committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.

B’Tselem, which has long documented Israeli rights abuses in occupied Palestinian territory, said: “It is our duty and responsibility to say the truth: Genocide is happening, right here and right now.”

“Entire cities razed to the ground; medical, educational, religious and cultural infrastructure systematically destroyed; 2 million Palestinians forcibly displaced with the aim of expelling them from Gaza; and, of course, mass starvation and killing – all this amounts to an explicit attempt to destroy the population of Gaza and impose living conditions so catastrophic that Palestinian society cannot continue to exist there,” B’Tselem said in a post sharing its latest report.

“That is the exact definition of genocide.”

Physicians for Human Rights (PHR), also based in Israel, said Israel’s “genocidal intent may be inferred from the pattern of conduct” throughout the war.
