Chadian authorities have announced that the country’s postponed presidential elections will be held in May.
The vote is expected to mark the end of a political transition that began in 2021 when former President Idriss Deby died after 30 years in power.
Contrary to the constitution, his son General Mahamat Devi was appointed his successor and promised to return the country to civilian rule.
The transition to power has been delayed, and it is expected that Mr Deby will run as a candidate.
Analysts say the electoral commission is far from neutral and that the opposition fears the Deby dynasty will spread to Chad.
