Prime Minister Jean-Michel Sama Leconde of the Democratic Republic of the Congo has resigned, he announced late Tuesday in a video shared on the presidential palace’s social media platforms.
President Felix Tshisekedi has accepted Luconde’s resignation, Reuters reported, citing a statement from the presidential palace.
The statement added that President Tshisekedi called on Mr Luconde’s government to continue in his office until a new government is formed.
In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the head of government is the Prime Minister.
Mr Luconde was elected as a member of parliament in the DRC general election last December, and will now take on legislative duties.
Mr Luconde was appointed prime minister in 2021, replacing former prime minister Silvestre Ilunga Irunkamba, who resigned after parliamentarians passed a motion of no confidence in him and his government.
