Nasser Hospital dispels rumours of upcoming evacuation

Nasser Hospital, the largest functioning health facility in southern Gaza, has issued a statement, saying “all medical, nursing and administrative staff are operating at full capacity and continuing to provide medical services to citizens around the clock”.

It added that numerous international organisations, including the Palestinian Medical Relief Foundation and the British Medical Association, continue to provide on-site support.

A medical team with Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has temporarily left, but is expected to return once the security situation improves, it added.

At least 17,500 Palestinians arrested in West Bank since Gaza war erupted: Monitor

Israel has rounded up and apprehended about 150 people across the occupied West Bank in just the past week, according to the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society.

That brings the total number of Israeli arrests in the occupied West Bank during the war to 17,500, in what the group called a campaign of “collective punishment”. Among those apprehended are 545 women and 1,400 children, it added.

“Arrests have been, and continue to be, the most prominent, consistent, and systematic policy employed [by Israel], not only in terms of the number of detainees, but also in terms of the level of crimes committed,” the monitor said.

Germany’s second-largest opposition party calls for sanctions on Smotrich, Ben-Gvir

Franziska Brantner, the head of Germany’s Green Party, has called for Berlin to join other countries in sanctioning Israeli far-right ministers Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben-Gvir for inciting violence against Palestinians and open support of illegal settlements and the expulsion of Palestinians from their territory.

Brantner, who co-leads Germany’s second-largest opposition party, accused the two ministers of “openly calling for violence against the Palestinian population and long having propagated a policy of annexation and displacement.”

“This costs human lives, displaces entire communities and poses enormous hurdles on the path to a peace process,” Brantner told the DPA news agency.

It said that Israel’s war in Gaza and deadly attacks in the occupied West Bank “compels us all to unite”.

Israel attacked Nasser Hospital repeatedly in past six weeks alone: MSF

Claire Manera, emergency coordinator for Doctors Without Borders (MSF) in Gaza, has told Al Jazeera from a field hospital in central Gaza’s Deir el-Balah city that Israeli air strikes around Nasser Hospital in the southern city of Khan Younis are intensifying every day, “getting closer and closer”.

She recently left the medical facility following Israeli forced displacement orders.

“Just on Monday, there was an air strike which damaged the ceilings of the OT [Operation Theatre] and IPD [In-Patient Department] sections, plus they shattered the windows of our In-Patient Department where some of the critical patients are staying,” she said. “So, it is impossible for us to continue working in these conditions.”

Manera said she was concerned “every day” that Israel could directly target the medical facility “because now everything can be struck at any moment without warning”.

“We are seeing this day by day. It is not just the tents of the displaced people and the camps and the schools of people who are running for their lives, but it is still also medical facilities that are being attacked,” she said.

“Nasser [Hospital] has been attacked at least three or four times since I arrived in the last six weeks and we just don’t know if it will continue to be safe there.”

One killed near Khan Younis

Our colleagues at Al Jazeera Arabic, citing a source at Nasser Hospital, are reporting that one Palestinian has been killed in an Israeli attack on the Qizan Rashwan area, south of Khan Younis, in the southern Gaza Strip.

Witness describes deadly chaos at Gaza aid site

Al Jazeera spoke to Jaber Al Hawjeri, a father of six who was near an aid distribution site in central Gaza’s so-called Netzarim Corridor when Israeli forces opened fire.

Desperate for food after running out of supplies, even bread, Al Hawjeri said people were “shot at” by what he believes were snipers or drones.

“We went to face death for some humanitarian aid, but we were attacked and left without any food,” he said, adding that his nephew was among the wounded.

“Victims were all over the place … The situation is going from bad to worse. We have no hope at all.”

Aid distribution points turned into ‘kill zones’ in Gaza

The Israeli military has renewed its attacks on aid seekers.

Medical reports confirm that 25 Palestinians have been killed and over 100 others injured near an aid distribution point near central Gaza’s Netzarim Corridor.

Emergency services are continuing to evacuate injured people from the site of the attack.

These areas that are meant to deliver life-saving supplies have turned into kill zones.

Ben-Gvir, illegal Israeli settlers storm Al-Aqsa Mosque compound

Our colleagues at Al Jazeera Arabic, citing local sources, report that far-right Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and illegal Israeli settlers have stormed Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.

The sources said approximately 100 Israeli police officers were deployed at Islam’s third-holiest site to secure the entry of the Israelis.

After entering the compound, the settlers, who are Israeli citizens living illegally on private Palestinian land in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, are reported to have performed Talmudic rituals.

The compound is not open for prayers to Jewish people under the long-established status quo, which Israeli settlers and officials have increasingly challenged in recent years.

US Ambassador to Israel expects no Palestinian state ‘in our lifetime’

Ambassador Mike Huckabee, a staunch Evangelical Christian and vocal supporter of Israeli settlement expansion, has said he doubts the creation of a Palestinian state remains a US foreign policy goal.

“I don’t think so,” he said when asked by Bloomberg News broadcaster if a Palestinian state is still a US goal.

“Unless there are some significant things that happen that change the culture, there’s no room for it,” he added, noting such changes probably won’t happen “in our lifetime”.

Huckabee has previously questioned the very notion of Palestinian identity, saying “really no such thing as a Palestinian”.

Australian PM defends sanctions on far-right Israeli ministers

Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Norway and the United Kingdom have announced sanctions on far-right Israeli ministers Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich, accusing them of repeatedly inciting violence against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.

The ministers openly support illegal settlements and the expulsion of Palestinians from their territory. Israel denounced the sanctions as “outrageous”, while the US also condemned the move.

Despite the backlash, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has defended the move, calling the reactions from Israel and the US “predictable”.

“The Israeli Government does need to uphold its obligations under international law and some of the expansionist rhetoric that we’ve seen as well is clearly in contradiction of that from these hardline right wing members of the Netanyahu government,” Albanese said in an interview with ABC Radio Sydney.

“We, along with those other countries and the broader international community, believe we can only see peace in the Middle East when we deal with two states and when both Israelis and Palestinians can live in peace and security,” he said in a television interview with Seven.

Greta Thunberg back in Sweden after deportation from Israel

Thunberg, one of the 12 activists and journalists who set off in a Gaza-bound humanitarian aid ship that was seized by Israel, is back in her native country after Israel deported her on Tuesday.

Thunberg, who flew to Sweden via Paris, arrived home at about 10:30pm (20:30 GMT) on Tuesday. She was greeted by about 30 cheering supporters waving Palestinian flags amid a large media presence.

As we reported, Thunberg has accused Israel of “kidnapping” her and the others on board the Madleen vessel and treating them in a “dehumanising” way. She stressed that attention should stay on the plight of the Palestinians in Gaza.

She was among the four of the 12 Madleen crew members who accepted deportation terms, according to the legal rights group Adalah. The eight others have been brought before an Israeli Detention Review Tribunal to review the custody orders issued against them.
