Mazzaltov World News provides you with the latest live coverage of Current Affairs, Sports, Health, Weather, Entertainment, Business and Travel News from around the world.

Here’s where things stand on Monday 7 July 2025:

  • Israeli forces continue to pound Gaza, including attacks on aid seekers and medical clinics, with at least 42 Palestinians killed so far today.
  • US President Donald Trump says there is a “good chance” that a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas could be reached this week.
  • Trump’s comments come as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrives in Washington, DC, and as negotiations resume in Qatar.
  • Israel’s war on Gaza has killed at least 57,523 people and wounded 136,617, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. An estimated 1,139 people were killed in Israel during the October 7, 2023 attacks and more than 200 taken captive.

Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital warns fuel will run out ‘within hours’

Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in central Gaza’s Deir el-Balah has warned its fuel will run out “within hours”, putting the lives of hundreds of patients at risk.

In a statement, the hospital said its shutdown would cut off healthcare services for half a million people in the central governorate.

It called on the international community and relevant authorities to urgently intervene after the hospital’s generator broke down.

More than 700,000 people displaced in Gaza since March: UN

The United Nations has raised the alarm over continued mass displacement in the Gaza Strip, noting that more than 700,000 people have been uprooted since Israel broke the ceasefire in March.

“Yesterday, Israeli authorities issued another displacement order for parts of Khan Younis for the second time in two days. Our colleagues estimate that more than 50,000 people are in the area slated for displacement,” UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said at a news conference.

More Palestinians were killed at the weekend while attempting to get food, said Dujarric.

“We again clearly condemn the killing of all civilians,” he said, adding “one out of every three people has not eaten for days in Gaza, placing more people at risk of starvation”.

Calling on Israel to open all crossings to facilitate aid distribution inside the enclave, Dujarric stressed “for the fourth straight month now the Israeli authorities have not allowed any fuel to enter Gaza”.

“Fuel is a lifeline in Gaza, and Israeli authorities must allow this commodity to enter without any further delay.”

At least seven Palestinians killed in Israeli attacks on central Gaza

Seven Palestinians have been killed in Israeli air strikes targeting areas in central Gaza, medical sources say.

Three people were killed and others wounded in an Israeli strike north of Nuseirat refugee camp at Ghorab roundabout, a source at al-Awda Hospital said.

An emergency services source said four more Palestinians were killed and others injured when Israeli forces struck a tent sheltering displaced people in al-Mawasi camp, west of Khan Younis in southern Gaza.

Al-Mawasi has been described as a “humanitarian zone” by Israel’s military, but it has come under repeated attack as displaced Palestinians are forced to move there.

Settlers storm Al-Aqsa Mosque compound

Accompanied by Israeli police, a group of Israeli settlers have entered the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound and have been filmed singing and dancing.

Israeli settlers, armed forces, and high-ranking politicians have repeatedly challenged the status quo of the holy Muslim site since the start of the war on Gaza.

‘Gaza is dying’: UNRWA chief appeals for immediate ceasefire

Philippe Lazzarini, head of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), has renewed his call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza as momentum gathers around another potential truce.

Lazzarini pointed out that more than 17,000 children, 1,500 healthcare workers, 600 starving Palestinians looking for aid – and a record-breaking 320 UNRWA staff – have been killed by Israel since the start of the war.

Two crew injured, two missing on cargo vessel attacked near Yemen

Two crew have been wounded and two others are missing on a Liberia-flagged bulk carrier that was attacked with skiffs and drones in the waters off Yemen.

British maritime security firm Ambrey said the vessel’s engines had reportedly been disabled and it started to drift. It did not identify the ship.

Earlier in the day, Yemen’s Houthis said the Magic Seas – a cargo ship they attacked with gunfire, rockets and explosive-laden remote-controlled boats – had sunk in the Red Sea, after their first known attack on the high seas this year.

Sunday’s assault occurred about 94km (51 nautical miles) southwest of Yemen’s Red Sea port of Hodeidah.

Israeli families protest in front of US embassy in Tel Aviv

The relatives of Israeli captives held in Gaza have demonstrated in front of the US embassy in Tel Aviv, demanding the return of all captives from the enclave.

Danny Miran, father of captive Omri Miran, said: “Based on the expectations of friendship that have been built over long decades with the United States, we came here this evening to ask for help. Do not disappoint us.”

Tal Kuperstein, father of captive Bar Kuperstein, said: “A deal must be completed now, I am in a difficult health condition. I urge the prime minister to agree to a deal where everyone returns home. Now, return all 50 kidnapped immediately.”

Another demonstration was organised in front of the US consulate in West Jerusalem.

Israeli army releases video of bombing ship seized by Houthis

As part of its attacks on three Yemeni ports and a power plant, the Israeli military also bombed the Galaxy Leader, the cargo ship seized by the Houthis shortly after the start of the war on Gaza in November 2023.

The Israeli army released footage of the strike, claiming the Houthis installed a radar system on the ship and used it to monitor vessels that could be targeted.

It also said its air defences downed another Houthi drone without any casualties.

UN expert says global economy must ‘follow some rules’ over Israel

Francesca Albanese – the United Nations special rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories – has defended her report on the “economy of genocide” and has urged people to boycott companies involved in human rights abuses by Israel.

Albanese has accused 48 firms of profiting financially from Israel’s war on Gaza and occupation of the West Bank by supplying military equipment or purchasing Israeli government bonds.

“I first want to say this report is not a threat to the global economy. I’m not advocating for the end of the market. I’m just saying the market has to follow some rules,” she told Al Jazeera.

“And when state conduct turns into killing, slaughtering, maiming and starving adults and children alike – including babies – then we have crossed that red line.”

More than 57,000 Palestinians have been killed by Israel since the war, now in its 22nd month, began. Hundreds of thousands have been displaced multiple times, cities and towns have been razed, hospitals and schools targeted, and 85 percent of the besieged and bombarded enclave is now under Israeli military control, according to the UN.

Israel heading for ‘decisive victory’ in Gaza: Army chief

The Israeli military has made great achievements in Gaza and is nearing a “decision point”, army chief Eyal Zamir has told soldiers during a tour inside the besieged enclave.

“All paths lead to one place. All the options we present to the political leadership have one goal: the return of the hostages and a decisive victory,” he said in footage of a meeting with top commanders in southern Khan Younis.

Zamir also held a situation assessment on the continuation of the land invasion of Gaza.

New ship attack west of Yemen’s Hodeidah

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reports a new ship attack some 51 nautical miles (94km) west of Yemen’s Hodeidah port.

The ship was attacked with rocket-propelled grenades from a small boat, similar to the assault by the Houthis on Sunday. We will bring you updates as they come in.

Three more Palestinians killed in attacks on central, southern Gaza

Three Palestinians have been killed in Israeli strikes targeting areas sheltering displaced people in Gaza, the news agency Wafa reports.

The death toll now stands at 42 since dawn, hospital sources tell Al Jazeera.

Medical sources said Majed Khwaishiq and Moath Abu Hamad were killed when Israeli forces directly struck a tent sheltering displaced families west of Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, wounding others.

Later, Yasser Hussein al-Astal was shot dead by Israeli soldiers near an aid distribution site, north of Rafah, in southern Gaza.

At least 750 Palestinians have been killed by attacks targeting aid distribution sites since May 27 when the controversial Gaza Humanitarian Foundation took over operations from United Nations-led agencies.

Israel’s PM Netanyahu ‘very good at getting people angry’

The relationship between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and American presidents has always been turbulent – marked by dramatic swings between close partnerships and bitter personal disputes.

So it remains unclear if President Trump can persuade Netanyahu to sign a new ceasefire with Hamas for war-battered Gaza.

“He is aware that most Americans generally are committed to the existence of the State of Israel. They may, of course, have very different positions about what exactly that means. But in general, it’s been considered a key part of American foreign policy,” Kenneth Wald, a professor emeritus at the University of Florida, told Al Jazeera.

“He [Netanyahu] is not willing. He does not recognise the Palestinians as a people deserving of the state. He believes that Israel is the representative of all the Jewish people, even though American Jews and many Jews, many other countries, would appear to disagree. So he is very good at getting people angry at him.”

At least three Palestinians have been killed in the attack, a source at al-Shifa Hospital said, according to our colleagues on the ground.

Several others have also been wounded at the medical facility, which has been attacked by Israel in the past. We’ll bring you more on the recent attack shortly.

Israel wants to cram Palestinians in ‘humanitarian city’ built on ruins of Rafah

Israel’s defence minister reportedly says the government wants to establish a “humanitarian city” south of the Morag Corridor, the new military route that cuts off Rafah in southern Gaza from the rest of the besieged enclave.

This large complex would be built “on the ruins of Rafah”, Israel Katz said at a security briefing with army chief Eyal Zamir and members of the far-right government, according to the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth, which published images and footage of the meeting.

The aim of the complex would be to “concentrate the population of Gaza and separate it from Hamas”, Katz said, adding that the Defence Ministry is looking at the possibility of partnering with an international entity to oversee its management.

He again encouraged “voluntary migration” of Palestinians to other countries and said the government wants to maintain a military presence in Gaza “until all hostages are returned” regardless of any ceasefire agreement.

10 Palestinians killed in East Jerusalem so far in 2025

The Jerusalem Governorate’s media office has released a report documenting Israeli operations in occupied East Jerusalem and its suburbs during the first half of 2025.

Citing the report, the Wafa news agency reported Israeli forces have killed 10 Palestinians, detained 404, and carried out 186 demolition and bulldozing operations.

The governorate also documented 33,634 illegal settlers storming the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound under Israeli police protection. The governorate also said Israel still holds the bodies of 47 Palestinians from East Jerusalem, some for decades.

The report further detailed 143 settler attacks, including 26 physical assaults – one of which led to a death – and 128 injuries from raids.

Hamas says aid mechanism a ‘death trap’ under US cover

The Palestinian group says the “crimes” of Israel against unarmed civilians in the Gaza Strip are continuing through the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF).

Hamas said in a short statement that aid sites run by the private US entity have become “death traps operated by the occupation forces under American cover”.

“This increases the number of martyrs daily and reveals the criminal nature of this system.”

More than 700 Palestinians have been killed while trying to get food from a handful of GHF sites set up in militarised zones.

Houthis claim sinking Magic Seas vessel after assault

Yemen’s Houthi military spokesperson says the cargo ship it targeted in an attack has now sunk in the Red Sea.

“By the grace and power of God, the ship Magic Seas completely sank in the depths of the sea after our armed forces targeted it in response to the company that owns the vessel’s repeated violations of the ban on entry into occupied Palestinian ports,” Yahya Saree said on social media.

“The latest of these violations was the entry of three of its ships into occupied Palestinian ports last week, despite warnings and appeals issued by our naval forces.”

Iran’s president says Israel ‘tried but failed’ to assassinate him

We have more from the Iranian president’s interview where he said Israel “tried but failed” to assassinate him by bombarding an area in which he was holding a security meeting.

“We did not start this war, and we do not want this war to continue in any way,” President Masoud Pezeshkian said.

He said that while holding nuclear negotiations, the Trump administration tried to reassure that Israel would not attack when diplomacy was ongoing. But then “Israel torpedoed the negotiating table”.

The Iranian president added that there was “severe damage” to Iran’s nuclear facilities and equipment, and that officials did not have access to the sites deep underground to assess the possibility of granting access to the IAEA.

“My proposal is that the US administration should refrain from getting involved in a war that is not America’s war; it is Netanyahu’s war,” Pezeshkian.

“I believe that the US president is powerful enough to put Israel and Netanyahu in their place and contain them, and to replace warmongering, bloodshed and conflicts with peace and tranquility.”

What are the main sticking points in Gaza ceasefire talks?

US President Donald Trump says a ceasefire deal on Gaza could be reached within days, but major hurdles include the status of the US- and Israeli-backed food distribution system that has been described as a “death trap”.

Israel seizes land near Ramallah to expand illegal outpost

Israeli authorities have announced the seizure of 74 hectares (183 acres) of land in the Palestinian villages of al-Mughayyir and Khirbet Jaba’it, northeast of Ramallah, in the occupied West Bank.

The area has been declared “state land” to tighten control and expand illegal settlements, Wafa news agency reported, citing the Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission.

The area includes the Malachei HaShalom outpost, which was built illegally in 2015 on al-Mughayyir’s land. The commission said the move aims to “legalise” and expand this outpost, which Israel’s far-right government pledged to approve two years ago.

Since early 2023, Israel has seized a total of 2,582 hectares (6,380 acres) under the so-called “state land” designation, the commission added.

One person killed in air strike on vehicle in southern Lebanon

At least one person has been killed in a suspected Israeli air strike on a van in the town of Deir Kifa in southern Lebanon.

The Israeli army has not commented on the incident yet, but it comes after Israel said it was targeting Hezbollah when it launched a series of attacks on eastern and southern Lebanon on Sunday night.

Latest update on Gaza truce talks in Qatar

According to an Al Jazeera correspondent covering the ceasefire negotiations:

  • Two sessions of indirect talks have been held so far – the first on Sunday night and the second on Monday morning.
  • A third session is scheduled for 7pm in Doha (16:00 GMT).
  • While there is a sense of optimism surrounding the talks, no progress has been made so far.
  • The primary obstacle remains the delivery of humanitarian aid. Hamas insists aid be delivered through the traditional mechanism, led by the United Nations.
  • The first session focused on this issue, but no breakthrough was achieved. The second session also ended without significant progress.
  • Current negotiations are centred on establishing a general framework for the talks. If successful, they will pave the way for detailed discussions on the proposed truce, including the number of captives and prisoners to be exchanged and the process for a withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.

Iran’s Pezeshkian presses US for ‘peace’ but says there’s no trust

Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian says he wants stability and believes US President Donald Trump has a choice as he “can lead the region towards peace and tranquility or, on the other hand, towards forever wars”.

“We see no problem in re-entering the negotiations,” Pezeshkian told US conservative media personality Tucker Carlson in a video interview conducted via a translator.

But he said Israel committed “atrocities” by attacking Iran and killing hundreds just days before Iran and the US were to hold a sixth round of negotiations mediated by Oman.

“How can we trust the US again? How will we know that in the middle of the talks, the Israeli regime will not be given permission to attack us again?”

Pezeshkian said another war would only further destabilise the Middle East, which will not be in the interest of the US, either.

Houthis say they used boats, missiles and drones on vessel in Red Sea

We can now bring you more on the Liberian-flagged and Greek-owned Magic Seas vessel targeted by the Houthis in the Red Sea.

The group’s spokesperson Yahya Saree said the Houthis used two unmanned boats rigged with explosives, five ballistic and winged missiles, and three unmanned aerial drones to hit the ship, which is now in danger of sinking.

He said the ship belonged “to a company that violated the ban on entering the ports of occupied Palestine”, and warned other companies that their ships could similarly be “legitimate targets for our forces” if they do not stay clear of Israel.

If you’re just joining us

Let’s get you up to speed with the latest developments:

  • At least 26 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks across Gaza today.
  • The Health Ministry in Gaza says at least 105 bodies and 356 wounded people have been brought to hospitals across the besieged enclave over the past 24 hours.
  • Israeli forces have started carrying out demolitions of Palestinian homes in the al-Murabba’a neighbourhood in the Tulkarem refugee camp in the occupied West Bank.
  • The Houthis say they have attacked the vessel Magic Seas in the Red Sea and it is now at risk of sinking.

Israelis pin ceasefire hopes on US pressure on PM Netanyahu

People in Israel who are hoping for a ceasefire deal are counting on US President Donald Trump – rather than Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu – to secure an agreement.

There is broad consensus in Israel that without Trump’s pressure, Netanyahu wouldn’t have gone in the direction of a ceasefire for 60 days.

In the meantime, there are people who don’t want any deal. They don’t want any kind of ceasefire because they see it as an unacceptable concession.

According to many observers, Netanyahu is doing two things: on the one hand, he’s buying time until the end of the month, when the Knesset goes into recess and none of his allies can take down the government.

But in Washington, what he will be looking for are political dividends that go beyond Gaza in terms of ease of going back to the war on Gaza, on Iran, on Lebanon, and normalising relations with neighbours in the region.
