Israel returns bodies of two Jordanians involved in border attack

The Israeli army has said it returned the bodies of two Jordanian citizens who carried out a shooting attack against its soldiers in October this year.

Back then, the two men had breached the border between Israel and Jordan, south of the Dead Sea, wounding two Israeli soldiers. They were shot dead by the Israel army soon after the crossing.

The army said the two were returned “in accordance with the directive of the political echelon”.

In a separate statement, the Jordanian Foreign Ministry identified the two men as Amer Qawas and Hussam Abu Ghazaleh.

“In coordination with the relevant authorities in the Kingdom, the two bodies were received via King Hussein [Allenby] Bridge and handed over to their families for burial in the Kingdom,” a ministry spokesperson said.
