LIVE UPDATES: Israeli forces kill 106 Palestinians in one day of attacks on Gaza

  • Al Jazeera has described a “bloody Friday in Gaza” where Israeli attacks killed 106 people across the war-torn enclave.
  • The Palestinian Red Crescent Society said 12 people were killed and 90 wounded when Israeli forces targeted civilians who had gathered to wait for aid trucks southwest of Gaza City.
  • Two more children and an adult have died due to “famine and malnutrition” in Gaza, the enclave’s Health Ministry said, bringing the number of deaths from starvation in the territory to 162, including 92 children.
  • Israel’s war on Gaza has killed at least 60,332 people and wounded 147,643 others. An estimated 1,139 people were killed in Israel during the October 7 attack, and more than 200 were taken captive.

Another Palestinian child dies of malnutrition

Atef Abu Khater, a 17-year-old Palestinian, has died of malnutrition, according to a medical source at al-Shifa Hospital quoted by our colleagues on the ground.

Earlier this week, Abu Khater, who had been in good health prior to the war in Gaza, was hospitalised in intensive care, according to media reports which quoted his father as saying he was no longer responding to treatment.

Homes destroyed by Israeli attacks near Khan Younis

Israeli forces have carried out a series of aerial attacks to the north of Khan Younis, according to Palestinian media reports.

Some of the attacks targeted and destroyed homes around the al-Amal neighbourhood, the Quds News Network and the Palestinian Information Center report.

The reports did not mention casualties.

At least 21 people killed by Israeli attacks today

At least 21 Palestinians, including 12 aid seekers, have been killed by Israeli attacks across Gaza today.

Aid air drops into Gaza ‘dangerous’, ‘costly’, ‘inefficient’, UNRWA officials warn

Juliette Touma of the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) has warned that the current aid being parachuted from military planes into Gaza is “dangerous to civilians” on the ground in the war-torn enclave.

In an interview, Touma said the UN must be allowed to do its work and the “much easier” solution to getting desperately needed food supplies to Gaza’s two million people was for Israel to open Gaza’s borders and allow aid trucks to enter.

Touma’s comments followed after UNRWA chief Philippe Lazzarini said the airdrops currently under way are “at least 100 times more costly than trucks”.

“Trucks carry twice as much aid as planes,” Lazzarini said, noting that UNRWA has 6,000 truckloads of aid ready to enter the enclave where famine conditions now exist.

“If there is political will to allow airdrops – which are highly costly, insufficient & inefficient, there should be similar political will to open the road crossings,” Lazzarini wrote on social media.

“As the people of #Gaza are starving to death, the only way to respond to the famine is to flood Gaza with assistance,” he added.

Israeli military shoots, arrests Palestinians in West Bank raids

The Israeli military has stormed the occupied West Bank town of Beit Duqqu, northwest of occupied East Jerusalem, and shot a Palestinian man, according to Al Jazeera Arabic.

The Palestine Red Crescent Society said it was treating a 21-year-old with bullet wounds in both legs.

Israeli forces have also stormed the town of Deir Jarir, east of Ramallah, where they’ve shot another Palestinian man.

The condition of the two victims is not currently known.

The Israeli military has also carried out early morning raids on Qalqilya and Nablus, arresting a man in each city, according to Al Jazeera.

Israeli military carries out deadly attacks across Gaza

Earlier, we reported that the Israeli military opened fire on a crowd of aid seekers south of Gaza City, killing at least 12 Palestinians who had gathered in the hope of receiving food aid.

Our colleagues at Al Jazeera Arabic have reported more deadly Israeli military attacks in the early hours of Saturday morning, including:

  • Five Palestinians have been killed in an Israeli air strike on an apartment building in the town of az-Zawayda in central Gaza, according to a source at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital.
  • Another Israeli air strike west of az-Zawayda has killed one Palestinian.
  • Three Palestinians were killed and others injured in an Israeli air strike targeting a tent camp for displaced people west of Khan Younis, southern Gaza, according to a source at the Nasser Hospital.

We will bring you further updates when we have them.

A recap of recent developments

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Israeli attacks killed at least 106 people across Gaza on Friday. Two more children and an adult also died due to “famine and malnutrition”, bringing the total number of deaths from starvation in the territory to 162, including 92 children.
  • Israel’s assault continued into the early hours of Saturday with an attack on civilians who had gathered to wait for aid trucks southwest of Gaza City, killing 12 people and injuring 90 more.
  • Israeli army chief Eyal Zamir visited troops in Gaza and said they will know “in the coming days” whether there will be a ceasefire or the fighting will continue.
  • The Israeli military allowed three European nations to carry out limited air drops of aid over Gaza, but the UN and aid agencies warn that the amount of supplies parachuted into the Palestinian territory is far from sufficient.
  • US envoy Steve Witkoff and ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee visited an aid site in Gaza run by the notorious GHF, in a trip described as “staged” by Al Jazeera’s correspondent in the enclave.
  • A spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that, “as far as he was aware”, Witkoff and Huckabee did not meet anyone from the UN during their visit.
