Here’s where things stand on Sunday 6 July 2025:
- Israeli forces bomb a house in Gaza City, killing at least 12 people, a day after killing at least 78 Palestinians in attacks across the besieged Strip. At least 27 people have been killed in Gaza today by Israeli attacks across the enclave.
- Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office says Israel will send negotiators to Qatar for ceasefire talks, but that changes to the deal requested by Hamas are “unacceptable”.
- The Palestinian Health Ministry says Israeli forces have killed at least 743 Palestinians in attacks at sites run by the US- and Israel-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) since late May.
- Israel’s war on Gaza has killed at least 57,338 people and wounded 135,957, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. An estimated 1,139 people were killed in Israel during the October 7, 2023, attacks, and more than 200 were taken captive.
Settlers damage agricultural facility in occupied West Bank
Israeli settlers have damaged an agricultural facility belonging to a Palestinian farmer on the outskirts of Kafr ad-Dik in Salfit province, Wafa news agency reports.
Quoting witnesses, Wafa said the settlers damaged the door of the facility, smashed its windows and destroyed the contents.
Two killed in Gaza City
Our colleagues on the ground in Gaza are reporting that two people have been killed and many wounded in an Israeli attack on Gaza City’s Tuffah neighbourhood.
Witness recounts ‘loud explosion’ as dozens killed in Gaza City
We have been reporting on the deadly Israeli attacks on homes in Gaza City this morning.
Mahmoud al-Sheikh Salama, a witness to one of the attacks, said it took place at 2am (23:00 GMT on Saturday) while he was sleeping.
“We heard a loud explosion, and shortly after, another one. We rushed over … and people were trapped under the rubble – four families, a large number of residents,” he told Al Jazeera.
“We tried to search for survivors and managed to pull out two people alive from under the rubble after about three hours of struggle and breaking through the debris. We got two out alive – the rest were martyred and are still trapped beneath the rubble.”

Hezbollah chief says no normalisation with Israel
Naim Qassem has delivered a speech on the ongoing tensions with Israel:
- We are confronting the Israeli enemy in defence of our country and will continue even if the entire world unites to dissuade us.
- Our goal is to keep the flame of resistance burning despite difficult circumstances.
- We are ready for peace and for building Lebanon, but we are also prepared to confront and defend our country.
- Once the first phase of the ceasefire agreement is achieved, we will discuss Lebanon’s defence strategy.
- We will not be part of legitimising the occupation in Lebanon, and we will not accept normalisation.
Four killed in southern Gaza
Our colleagues at Al Jazeera Arabic, citing sources at Nasser Hospital, report that four Palestinians, including three children, have been killed in an Israeli attack on a tent west of Khan Younis, southern Gaza.
If you’re just joining us
Here are some of the main developments:
- At least 27 people have been killed by Israeli attacks across Gaza today.
- PM Netanyahu’s office says Israel will send negotiators to Doha for ceasefire talks, but that changes to the deal suggested by Hamas are “unacceptable”.
- Israeli settlers are reported to have stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, Islam’s third-holiest site, in occupied East Jerusalem under the protection of Israeli police.
- A municipality spokesman has told Al Jazeera that thousands of families in eastern Gaza City have been without water for about a week.
Food supplies at US-, Israeli-backed GHF aid centres deemed insufficient
On the ground, it is increasingly clear to many Palestinians that the Gaza Humanitarian Fund (GHF) has not been operating as a humanitarian actor.
Civilians continue to say that these spaces are military zones that endanger Palestinian lives rather than protect them.
Palestinians have repeatedly been killed during these operations. Testimonies confirm that the victims were killed while they were simply trying to collect food.
Many testify that the aid distributed here is far from sufficient to address the dire humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The severe shortage of food in Gaza, coupled with exorbitant prices in local markets, means most people cannot access or afford basic necessities.
Retired Israeli general says Hamas fighters back to pre-war numbers
Israeli (reserve) Major-General Yitzhak Brik says Hamas has regained its pre-war strength, contradicting the Israeli army’s accounts of progress in Gaza, calling the reality on the ground “grim”.
Writing an opinion article published by Israeli news outlet Maariv, Brik claimed that Hamas now numbers about 40,000 fighters, similar to its strength before the war began in Gaza, with many operatives stationed in tunnels.
“They continue to fight as guerrillas as they have been fighting since the beginning of the war,” Brik wrote.
“They were never an army, and therefore they have not lost their military capabilities as the Chief of Staff [of the Israeli Army] claims.”
Israeli forces kill 32 in Gaza today
Sources in Gaza hospitals have told Al Jazeera that 32 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks on the besieged enclave today.
At least 29 of those were killed in Gaza City.
Israeli army says it intercepted missile launched from Yemen
The Israeli army says it intercepted a missile launched from Yemen towards Israel earlier today, with sirens activated in several parts of the country.
A Houthi spokesperson said in a statement later that the group had fired a ballistic missile at Israel’s Ben Gurion airport.
The Houthis, who control Sanaa and several western and northern areas of Yemen, have continued to launch missile and drone attacks on Israel since November 2023, weeks after Israel’s war on Gaza began.
Israel wants Gaza to be ‘land without a people’
Netanyahu is not interested in a ceasefire, according to Adnan Hayajneh, professor of international relations at Qatar University, who told Al Jazeera that “there’s no hope that the ceasefire will continue” after all the captives are released, when Israel will return to “the same old story of killing the Palestinians”.
“I think what Israel wants is clear … it wants to land without a people … so Palestinians are given three choices: starve to death, get killed or leave the land.
“Palestinians and Hamas are interested in an overall ceasefire and the stop of the killing of the people and ending the conflict,” he said, adding that Israel is only interested in an agreement for the short-term target of securing the release of Israeli captives.

Israeli cabinet approves sending negotiators to Doha after heated debate
It took five hours of heated discussions, which devolved into shouting matches, according to Israeli media reports, for the cabinet to approve sending negotiators to Doha.
There are now disagreements, especially regarding the distribution of aid.
Hamas says that the UN must be allowed to once again distribute aid at more than 400 distribution points across Gaza that they used to operate before Israel broke the ceasefire in March. This is not just the Hamas demand; it’s really an international one.
At this point, what Netanyahu wants to do is protect the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, the control that Israel has now over the distribution of aid, which is not limited to food.
Settlers storm Al-Aqsa Mosque compound
Our colleagues are reporting, citing local sources, that Israeli settlers have stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, Islam’s third-holiest site, in occupied East Jerusalem under the protection of Israeli police.
Settlers are Israeli citizens living illegally on private Palestinian land in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem.
