Malawi: Six dead after flash floods

At least six people were killed and four injured in flash floods in central Malawi last week, local authorities said.

More than 14,000 people have been evacuated, most of them now living in camps, the country’s Disaster Management Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.

Many flood-affected areas remain inaccessible due to significant damage to roads and other infrastructure.

This hinders the delivery of aid, as humanitarian workers primarily rely on boats to reach affected areas.

The agency called for further support from individuals, businesses and aid organizations to support the government’s relief efforts.

It comes exactly one year after Tropical Cyclone Freddy hit southern Africa, killing hundreds of Malawians.
