Nigeria’s Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has dismissed calls for President Bola Tinubu to resign as an “attempt to create distractions”.
Some governors from Nigeria’s main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), last week called on President Tinubu to resign if he cannot address the country’s economic challenges.
Mr Idris on Sunday said President Tinubu will not resign and that he is capable of addressing the country’s economic difficulties.”President Tinubu is not and will never be overwhelmed by the current challenges facing this country.
He will not shirk his responsibilities,” Idris said. said in a statement.
“He will continue to courageously fight and overcome challenges and lay lasting foundations for a new and emerging Nigeria.
“The West African country is currently in its worst economic crisis in years. The value of the country is also declining.
The currency has plummeted to record lows and many residents are struggling to buy essentials.
