Norway’s King Harald has been discharged from a hospital in Malaysia after having a pacemaker implanted while on holiday.
He will continue to recover in a hospital in Norway, the statement said.
“His Majesty will take two weeks of sick leave,” the palace announced. “
During this time, the Crown Prince will become Regent and assume the constitutional duties of the King.”At 87, King Harald is Europe’s oldest living monarch.
He became king on January 17, 1991.
He contracted an infection during a personal trip to Langkawi and was taken to the hospital.
On Saturday, the palace announced that he had been implanted with a temporary pacemaker “due to low heart rate”.
The king was released on Sunday and is flying home on a medical evacuation plane. The pacemaker will “make it safer for him to go home,” the king’s doctor said.
