A South African court has rejected a proposal by the main opposition party, the Democratic Alliance, to rule as unconstitutional the ruling African National Congress (ANC)’s controversial policy of sending senior officials to key state institutions.
The DA argued that this policy would undermine the independence of state institutions and encourage corruption.
However, the High Court in Pretoria ruled against the party.
The ANC has long maintained that the policy was aimed at bringing about racial change in South Africa after the end of apartheid in 1994.
The prosecutor’s office said it would appeal the decision.
The legal battle began as political parties prepared for national and local elections scheduled for May 29th.
