Sudan: Army and RSF clash close to capital

There has been heavy fighting between the military and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia in Sudan’s Bahri city.

Bari, also known as Khartoum North, is one of the three neighbouring cities that make up the metropolitan area.

The military announced on Saturday that it had repelled a major RSF attack on a military base.

The fighting occurred days after the military recaptured the headquarters of the state broadcaster.

The army has reportedly expanded in recent weeks and taken control of large parts of the city of Omdurman, across the Nile from Khartoum.

On Friday, the United Nations appealed to the parties to the conflict to allow humanitarian aid to avert what it called a catastrophic hunger crisis.
